Blue light gets a bad reputation, but it isn’t the main cause of eye strain— our screen habits are. When we stare at our devices, we blink significantly less, leading to dryness and fatigue. And while blue light from screens won't cause permanent damage, it does disrupt your sleep by suppressing melatonin and interrupting your circadian rhythm.

Rather than relying on blue light glasses, we recommend implementing the 20-20-20 rule: every 20 minutes, look 20 feet away for 20 seconds to give your focusing muscles a break.

School screenings are great for catching major issues, but they are just screenings at the end of the day. They can miss subtle eye issues, such as difficulties in eye-teaming and focusing, which often affects a child's school performance and even their lives outside of the classroom. An annual checkup ensures their vision keeps pace with their education.

Children rarely report vision problems because they don't realize they are seeing differently. The following are subtle signs that may indicate your child is having difficulty seeing:
·Squinting
·Frequent eye rubbing
·Sitting too close to screens
·Losing their place while reading
·Headaches when doing near work (like reading or doing school work)

Since 80% of classroom learning is visual, what looks like a short attention span or a learning struggle may be an undiagnosed visual fatigue. A routine eye exam is the best way to ensure a child isn't working twice as hard just to keep up. Book your child's appointment at https://eyeqvc.com/patient-contact/.

You may have seen apps advertised that claim to 'replace going to the eye doctor' and wondered, how accurate is this information? The answer is—not that accurate.

That's because the results these apps give do not provide sufficient information to determine a patient's needs and course of healing. Online apps for vision care can give a false sense of security and should never be a reliable form of care. It's best to see your optometrist for a comprehensive eye exam.

Did you know that excessive screen time can lead to eye strain? Common symptoms include dryness, blurred vision, and fatigue.

Simple habits can help safeguard your vision. One example is the 20-20-20 rule: every 20 minutes, look at something 20 feet away for at least 20 seconds to give your eyes a break. Other easy habits you can implement are regularly blinking to help reduce dryness, ensuring your workspace is well-lit to minimize glare and adjusting your screen brightness to match the surrounding light.

Your eyes work diligently, so it's essential to provide them with the care they deserve. How do you take breaks from the screen?
