In this month's Saturday Spotlight, we have the honor of highlighting our wonderful Flower Power Volunteer, Jeff Seibert!
Get to know Jeff Below!
What is your role and why do you volunteer?
In the time after mom died, I started thinking about how I could spend time volunteering, and decided that I would ask where I could be of service at Hinds. Flower Power, that is where I agreed to help out. Every other Friday, when I am able, I drive over to the Hinds offices and pick up a box of arranged flowers and deliver them to those who are in hospice, and while I don't talk with everyone for whom a bud vase is made, there are those shining moments that can occur. Hospice usually means end of life is near, and for some, I am amazed at how much they still care - they still smile - they still are thankful that someone remembers them.
Do you have any hobbies?
My hobbies are limited. I don’t bowl in a regular league, but used to when I lived in the Bay Area. I golfed more when I lived in the Bay Area too. I played boy’s volleyball at Bullard High School, graduating a very long time ago, but being on a winning team. Teamwork is important, and it helped me to learn to communicate with others and to treat others as I would like to be treated.
What has been one of the hardest journeys in your life and how has it influenced your life since?
I first heard about Nancy Hinds through a friend who knew Nancy. Hinds LifeCare was the first hospice that I remember hearing about, and because of the care and devotion that I heard about, when my mom was diagnosed with cancer, and was told there was really nothing that could be done, both mom and I agreed that she would enter hospice through Hinds. That was at the end of June 2023. Mom came home from St. Agnes and passed August 1, 2023 from colon cancer. I knew I would be alright, and mom knew I would be alright. I'm an only child. Mom has a sister. We got through it. But the grief of losing someone who is loved and admired is truly a journey - a journey that I am still taking. My journey helps me with other friends, with my aunt, talking and consoling and learning.
