Veterans Home of California - Fresno

Veterans Home of California - Fresno The Veterans Home of California-Fresno is a 300-bed, long-term care facility located on 27 acres in the heart of the San Joaquin Valley.

Opened in October 2013, the VHC-Fresno has 300 beds and presently offers Residential Care Facility for the Elderly (RCFE), also known as assisted living. Early next year the Home will also offer Skilled Nursing. The two levels of care will provide continuity in the lives of residents in a homelike atmosphere of dignity and respect. All healthcare needs, meals, transportation and activities are provided by the Veterans Home of California-Fresno. Residents in the assisted living care area are required to need minimal assistance and supervision with most activities of daily living. Licensed nurses are available at the Home for necessary care. Skilled nursing care is provided to residents on a 24-hour basis by licensed nurses and certified nursing assistants. Skilled nursing residents have greater access to rehabilitation therapies, nursing care, pharmacy management, structured activities and clinical dietary services. A memory care program with this level of care provides a supervised environment for veterans with symptoms of confusion, memory loss, difficulty making decisions, solving problems or participating in conversations. The Veterans Home provides California veterans with a living environment that protects their dignity and contributes to their feeling of self-reliance and self-worth. The nearby City of Fresno offers many cultural and educational opportunities for Home residents to enjoy. Veterans considering assisted living are encouraged to apply. To qualify, you must be a resident of California, age 55 or older (or younger if disabled), and have served honorably. Spouses are also eligible to apply with the Veterans.

Tomorrow is the big day for our second annual Operation Adopt A Vet. This gives our community an opportunity to brighten the Christmas for a local veteran here at the Veterans Home of California-Fresno. This year we have added more opportunities to support our veterans throughout the year. In addition to picking up a “wish tag” with the wishes of one of our residents, you can sponsor activities like attending a Fresno Grizzlies game, or going to the Chaffee Zoo, purchasing Father’s Day gifts, or sponsoring a very special catered lunch on Veterans Day 2026.
So join us tomorrow, November 20th, 5-7p.m. At the Fresno Home. It promises to be a festive event!

It was a beautiful day for a parade. So thousands of people lined the streets of downtown Fresno for the Annual Central Valley Veterans Day Parade. This community is filled with pride for the local veterans who have served our country.
The residents at the Veterans Home of California-Fresno also had a wonderful day in their honor. They participated in the parade. Then they had a delicious barbecue lunch followed by a concert in the courtyard with The Little Band playing rock n roll classics from the 70’s. The veterans also received a showering of well wishes in cards from our community. It was a beautiful day.

The Annual Harvest Festival at the Veterans Home of California-Fresno continued after the employee costume contest with kiddos all dressed up in their costumes ready to play! We had an assortment of food booths with popcorn, cinnamon rolls, cotton candy and pizza. We had pumpkins to decorate, games to play, face painting, balloon animals, a bake sale, cake walk and a special costume contest just for kids. The festivities ended with the kids going Trick o Treating throughout the Home. Not sure who had more fun, the kids or our veterans!

Staff at the Veterans Home of California-Fresno hosted their annual Harvest Festival which included a Halloween costume contest pitting departments against each other. The HR department “drove” away with the win with their “car wash” themed costumes. They even transformed an electric wheelchair into a BMW. Pictures from the afternoon activities will be posted shortly!

On October 18, 2013, the Veterans Home of California-Fresno opened its doors for residents. To celebrate our 12th Annual Founder’s Day, we celebrated with a very special luncheon for our veterans, followed by a ceremony in the courtyard. The ceremony honored some of our staff that have been with the State of California for 20 to 30 years. Then we honored our veterans who have lived at the Home for 11 years. It was a wonderful way to honor staff and veterans alike that make up the heart of this Home.

Nothing screams the end of Summer like a pool party. So the activities team at the Veterans Home of California-Fresno organized this fun filled event for our skilled nursing residents. Everyone got wet, but it didn’t bother anyone because it was so hot. Plus, our veterans loved nothing better than soaking our staff with a water we**ie! It was a wet and wild happening!
