Today we celebrate the birthday of someone whose legacy continues to shape everything we do. 🤍

Birdie Lou Tatum had a quiet but powerful way of making people feel valued, seen, and safe — especially during life's hardest moments. She believed kindness should never have conditions, and that belief now guides the work of the Birdie Lou Counseling Center.

Named in her honor, the Birdie Lou Counseling Center provides completely free mental health therapy to individuals and families in our community — ensuring that care is accessible to those who might otherwise go without support.

In celebration of her 97th birthday, we are honoring her legacy through our Birdie Lou Legacy Campaign: 97 Years of Compassion, with a goal of raising $97,000 to ensure we can continue this life-changing work and therapy remains accessible for those who need it most.

Happy Birthday, Birdie Lou. Your compassion lives on. 🤍

We invite you to support the Birdie Lou Legacy Campaign. Every gift helps continue her legacy of free mental health care in our community.

Valentine's Day can bring up complicated emotions, especially when you're already navigating anxiety or relationship stress.

We sat down with Ivan Macias, LMFT, one of our therapists, to talk about how to move through this day with more ease and less overwhelm. In this conversation, he shares evidence-based strategies to help you navigate it with confidence:

✨ Limiting social media use to reduce comparison and unrealistic expectations
✨ Clarifying your own expectations, both with yourself and in your relationships

Whether you're in a relationship, single, or somewhere in between, you deserve to feel grounded rather than pressured by what this day is "supposed" to look like.

If anxiety around situations like this feels difficult to manage, or if you've found that traditional weekly therapy isn't providing enough support, we're here. You don't have to navigate this alone.

You never really know what someone else is carrying.

Some people are celebrating small wins.
Some are managing stress behind the scenes.
Others are taking it one step at a time — and that’s enough.

Mental health journeys look different for everyone, and every moment matters. 💛

Share this as a reminder to lead with kindness — for others and for yourself.

You don’t have to wait for a crisis to get care 💙

Many people believe therapy only comes in two forms: a weekly session or hospitalization.

The truth is, there’s care in between. Some people need more support than once-a-week therapy can offer, and recognizing that is an important step toward healing.

Intensive programs like IOP and PHP provide structured, consistent support that helps you heal safely and steadily before life feels unmanageable.

Early, intentional care isn’t a last resort. It’s a sign of strength and self-awareness. ✨

Highlights from our CEU event this Saturday with Central Valley Behavioral Health in coordination with the San Joaquin Psychological Association ✨

We were honored to host Dr. Cheryl Dueck Smith, D.A., LMFT, as she presented Working with Emotion Across Cultures: An EFT Approach.

It was an engaging and insightful morning focused on deepening our understanding of emotion-focused therapy through a culturally responsive lens. Thank you to everyone who joined us and contributed to such a meaningful learning experience.

If weekly therapy doesn’t feel like enough, it’s okay to pause and listen to what that might be telling you.

It doesn’t mean you’re doing anything wrong. It may simply mean your mind and body are asking for a different kind of support right now. Healing looks different for everyone, and sometimes it begins with meeting yourself exactly where you are and choosing the level of care that feels safest and most supportive.

If you or someone you know is struggling, call us at (559) 326-7775 or visit sierrameadowsbehavioralhealth.com to learn more about how we can help.
