Alumni and friends came together recently at the Fresno Art Museum to celebrate a shared connection to UCSF, the leading university dedicated exclusively to health sciences, graduate-level education, and patient care. The event was a special evening celebrating UCSF's legacy and future in California's San Joaquin Valley. UC Alumni Regent and UCSF School of Pharmacy alumnus Brian Komoto; UCSF School of Medicine Dean Talmadge King; and UCSF Fresno Vice Dean Jose M. Barral Sanchez; welcomed guests, provided updates, and spoke to the many ways UCSF is extending its mission of teaching, research and patient care across the Valley and Central California in collaboration with clinical and educational partners. UCSF School of Nursing Dean Carol Dawson-Rose, also attended. The UCSF alumni community in the San Joaquin Valley is a powerful force for advancing health and education in the region. Coming up: Alumni will gather at UCSF Mission Bay Campus for Alumni Weekend April 23-25, 2026.

Thanks to Congressman Jim Costa for stopping by UCSF Fresno today to meet with UCSF School of Medicine Dean Talmadge King who was in town for a series of meetings. Dean King announced last week that he is stepping down as dean after 11 years to return to faculty. Much appreciation and respect for these two longtime advocates for expanding high-quality medical education and access to health care in the San Joaquin Valley.

A San Joaquin Valley thank you…
UCSF Fresno presented UCSF School of Medicine Dean Talmadge King with a signed campus photo and a bear sculpture by Fresno-based Margaret Hudson's Earth Arts Studio & Gallery. The bear is an unofficial mascot of UCSF and the sculpture also symbolizes Fresno. The gifts were presented in honor of his commitment to our community and the physicians trained here.
