Every month at CVRC's Board of Director's Meetings, we honor one individual served who deserves a chance in the spotlight. In October, we were able to spotlight Shawna❤

Shawna’s journey is a powerful example of what can happen when someone is given the opportunity to be truly seen and supported. After overcoming a difficult childhood and years of instability, Shawna was ready for a new start, one that would allow her to show who she truly was and what she was capable of.

Instead of being placed in a more restrictive setting, Shawna was given the chance to live in a Supported Living Services (SLS) home — an opportunity that opened the door to independence, friendship, and personal growth. From the beginning, she embraced this new chapter with courage and determination, proving that with the right support, great things are possible.

Over time, Shawna’s confidence grew, and she discovered her creative talents through art projects she began selling online. She continued to build meaningful relationships, take pride in her accomplishments, and make positive, healthy choices that improved her overall quality of life.

Today, Shawna is thriving — living independently with her fiancé, working toward her personal goals, and surrounded by love and stability. She has built a life that reflects her strength, kindness, and resilience.

Shawna’s story reminds us of why we do what we do at CVRC: to believe in every person’s potential, even when the path forward isn’t easy. With the right opportunity and support, people can, and do, flourish.
