Is residential treatment right for your teen?

If your teen is struggling with severe anxiety, depression, trauma, or behavioral challenges that make it hard for them to function day-to-day, residential treatment might be the support they need.

Here's what you need to know:

Residential care is the highest level of mental health treatment available outside of hospitalization, a 24/7 structured environment where teens can focus entirely on healing, away from daily stressors and triggers. Unlike our IOP and PHP program (where teens come home each night), residential provides round-the-clock supervision, intensive therapy, and comprehensive support in a safe space.

This level of care is for teens who:
• Are in crisis
• Haven't stabilized with lower levels of care
• Need constant support to stay safe
• Require more than weekly therapy can provide

At Ascend's residential program in Fresno, your teen will receive:
✓ Individual therapy
✓ Group therapy
✓ Family counseling
✓ Medication management (when needed)
✓ Academic support
✓ Personalized treatment plans

Most teens stay 30-90 days, with the goal of stabilizing symptoms, building coping skills, and preparing for a successful transition back home.

Every parent of a teen has wondered: "Is this normal, or is something wrong?"

Moodiness? Normal. Sleeping until noon on weekends? Pretty typical.

But when sleep patterns shift dramatically, when they stop seeing friends, when grades tank seemingly overnight, those aren't just phases. They're signs your teen is struggling.

Here's the truth: you don't need to have all the answers. You just need to trust your instincts and be willing to ask for help when something feels off.

If you're noticing changes in your teen that worry you, we're here 💙

Heading into the weekend with a few gentle reminders for your teen, for you, or for anyone who needs to hear it:

💙 Life is tough, but so are you.
💚 You can do hard things.
💙 Be kind (to yourself, too).
💚 Be proud of how far you've come.

Progress looks different for everyone. Some weeks feel full of wins. Some feel quiet. Both matter.

If you're wondering whether your teen needs more support than outpatient therapy alone, we're here to help you find the right fit.

Sleep struggles in teens are often more than just late nights. 🌙

Persistent sleep disturbances can sometimes be one of the earliest warning signs that a teen’s mental health may need additional support.

During adolescence, the body’s internal clock naturally shifts later — which can already make consistent sleep challenging. But when sleep problems begin to affect mood, school, or daily life, it may be a signal that something deeper is going on.

Sleep plays a major role in:
• emotional regulation
• stress tolerance
• focus at school
• overall mental health

Parents are often the first to notice when something feels different.

💭 What sleep changes have you noticed in your teen?

Save this post to revisit later, and share it with another parent who may find it helpful.

😴 💭 We often hope we’re handling everything the “right” way…

And yet, some days are harder than others.
Some nights we push our feelings aside, doom-scroll instead of resting,
or feel overwhelmed and unsure how to cope.
And that’s okay.

Even in the midst of struggle, the small steps you take each day matter.

When you notice that trying your best even when things feel heavy… then it is truly you who is showing up. 💙

Swipe through the carousel to learn how to open the door without pushing too hard, and when it might be time to seek professional support.

When something feels off with your teen, it’s okay to pay attention to that feeling. 💚

You know your child best, and noticing subtle changes—like withdrawing from friends, losing interest in things they once loved, or just seeming “off”—can be an important first step toward getting help.

We offer care that meets teens where they are. Our Intensive Outpatient (IOP) and Partial Hospitalization (PHP) programs provide the kind of consistent, structured support that helps teens heal before things reach a breaking point.

There’s courage in noticing, and even more in taking that next step.
