Today marks the start of U.S. Antibiotic Awareness Week — a reminder that antibiotic resistance is not a distant problem. It’s happening here, now, and impacting the care we provide every day.
💡More than 2.8 million antibiotic-resistant infections
occur annually in the U.S., leading to over 35,000 deaths (CDC).
💡And as much as 30-50% of antibiotic use in outpatient settings is unnecessary or inappropriate — a major driver of resistance.
As healthcare providers, caregivers, and partners in community wellness, our role is clear:
✅Use antibiotics responsibly
✅ Educate clients and families
✅Advocate for evidence-based prescribing
✅Support prevention through hygiene, chronic disease management, and early symptom reporting
Together, we can protect the effectiveness of antibiotics for future generations and ensure safer, more reliable care for everyone.
