WE DID THE DANG THING! Slow and steady won today’s race!

What a freaking day! I definitely pushed myself harder today than I ever have. My body is hurting but it was SO worth it for my REASON and . I committed to this race a while back at our Spring Fling without any prior running experience since college. I wasn’t sure if I was going to be able to do it, but I did!!

With all of your generous donations I was able to raise $8,630 to help other mamas like me and kids like Stevie.

If you’d still like to donate, you can do so here! Can we get to $9,000?!

Read below to learn about Steel Magnolia Moms- Houston vision.

The mission of Steel Magnolia Moms is to positively support one another and share in the joys and challenges of raising a child with special needs.

Having a child with special needs is isolating. It’s scary. Motherhood is commonly said to be the most important job and greatest source of joy, but for a special needs mom, that can suddenly be shaped, defined, and limited by what their child can’t do.

Almost every other job has an out. If you’re overwhelmed, feel inadequate or aren’t happy in your position, you can quit and find another job that better suits. But not motherhood. It’s the hardest job, and there’s no such thing as a two-weeks notice. Having a child who has a disability just intensifies it all.

Steel Magnolia Moms reminds these moms to take time out of their hectic schedules to focus on themselves. We share our knowledge and resources, but more importantly, we encourage moms to take a break, have fun, and connect.

HAPPY FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL TO MY BABY 🥺

Stevie is starting ECSE today. Early childhood special education pk3! She walked in like she owned the place and she might literally by the end of this first week! 💪🏼📚🚌

Hard day for me, but I know this is what’s best for her! Hopefully they can teach her not to color on the walls 🤪

This year I am running to support Steel Magnolia Moms (SMM). (LINK IN BIO)

SMM is a group of moms in the Houston area that are all raising a child with special needs like me! Unlike many diagnosis centric groups this group focuses on the moms and encourages them to take care of themselves. We all know being a mom is hard but having a child with special needs can multiply that hard, so SMM continually provides programs and events to support their mental, emotional, physical and spiritual health.

Since 2016 SMM has given moms a community that "gets it” where instead of trying to minimize their challenges, they can celebrate them! There are many ways in which moms are supported by SMM. They provide online resource sharing, private events and workshops, Moms Camp, programs like Head to Heart, which provides psychological support to its members, Happy Camper(s), to send children with special needs to summer camp, and many more invaluable ways to promote the health and happiness of the moms.

Please consider supporting my fundraising efforts for the 2023 Houston Marathon Race Weekend. Every donation counts, just like every inchstone a child makes!

THANK YOU!
