An inclusive environment for populations seeking accessible therapy and superior support. We first and foremost base our practices in relational therapy.

Helpful Harmonies Music Therapy was created with the intent that inclusion always comes first. For that reason, we are an affirming practice with Ally-trained therapists that believe in equity of services, accessibility of music therapy, and sustainable professional practices. Helpful Harmonies also promotes autonomy for all of their clients, which is the level of support that sets them apart from other practices. At Helpful Harmonies, we provide superior support to our clients through the entire process. Something that sets us apart from other therapists is our continued commitment to increasing accessibility of services and resources for not only our clients, but for our community. We believe that there is a lack of accessibility for individuals seeking therapy in our area. At Helpful Harmonies, we strive to bridge this gap.

Our therapists are here to create a welcoming space and build a truly unique connection with each of our clients. In order to connect with our clients, we most importantly need strong rapport with each of them to best assist them in the goals and areas of needs their families want for them. This is why we require that all of our clients undergo an individualized evaluation.

We do this to recognize and cultivate the unique potential of each client by being able to view the whole person. Once the relationship is built and an appropriate assessment of all needs are considered, we develop an ambitious plan for each child that is derived from current research and that considers all of the individual’s abilities. Throughout the therapeutic process, we are in constant communication with caregivers and other professionals on their support team to create a cohesive and collaborative environment that will provide the highest level of support for our client. WHAT IS WORLD DOWN SYNDROME DAY?
💙We raise awareness about Down syndrome
💛We advocate for the rights of people with Down syndrome
💙We celebrate people with Down syndrome and their value in the world!

WHY MARCH 21st?
💛March is the third month of the year
💙It is the 21st day of the month
💛Down syndrome, otherwise known as Trisomy 21, occurs when a person has a third copy of the 21st chromosome

WHY MISMATCHED SOCKS?
💙When we look at chromosomes under a microscope, they look like pairs of socks
💛Staining the chromosomes (so we can see them better) make them look striped
💙Some people even wear an extra sock to represent the extra copy!

Simple enrichment activities can support children’s development in many ways — from language and communication to motor skills, emotional expression, and curiosity about the world around them.

📖 Music and Reading! 📖

IT'S READ ACROSS AMERICA WEEK!

Did you know that:
📖 Children who study music tend to have larger vocabularies❓
📖 Children who participate in music score higher in English and Math than their peers who don’t❓
📖 Children who study music in school show greater brain development and memory skills than children who don’t❓
📖 Children who study music have more confidence and self-expression skills❓

ITS TRUE, according to Columbia University and their studies on the long-term benefits and development of utilizing music programs with elementary-aged children.

This is a big reason why we LOVE using music to support academic goals, and one of our FAVORITES being ✨ Reading Comprehension ✨

In our sessions, we often use books with original melodies to teach clients how to answer comprehension questions, how to find answers in texts, and how to use textual evidence to answer a writing prompt using multiple sentences (yes! We have songs created for writing paragraphs!).

Music and the way it interacts with the brain is so amazing! And the importance of music or reading alone is so impactful in a child’s development, let alone when you combine the two!
