All women with a chronic disease should see us before they get pregnant.

Give us the opportunity to help ensure your pregnancy will be uneventful by making a plan.

Let’s get your blood pressure under control with safe blood pressure medication for pregnancy. Let us get your diabetes under complete control before that positive pregnancy test.

Lastly, if you have had multiple pregnancy losses, we need to see you before you try again. There are many correctable and treatable causes for recurrent miscarriages.

Why do newborns often look old?

It's mostly for the same reason - newborns and older people both have more skin than bone underneath.

For babies, this means there is enough skin to stretch over the increasing bone density and growth as the baby develops to adulthood. (For older people it means that bone density loss leads to more skin/less bone.)

Those jowls, receding hairline, deep wrinkles and what can look like a disgruntled frown...they are adorable on a new born and a glimpse into how their body will change into an adult human.

What do you need to bring to the hospital for your baby?

Typically items for your baby are provided however, you may enjoy having your own of a few items. Perhaps a special swaddle blanket, a few newborn clothes and an organic food grade oil (great for cleaning meconium). One item you absolutely need is an infant car seat so we can send you home as a new family. 💙

Who says you need to labor laying down?

Unless there is a medical reason to stay resting, you can use lots of positions in your hospital room...including using all the shapes a hospital bed can be moved into.

Not sure what to do? Ask your nurse or hire a doula to bring with you.

300 extra calories a day.

There are many different body shapes and sizes and different bodies respond to pregnancy in many ways.

There is a wide variation in the amount of weight a person may gain in pregnancy. The most important thing to be mindful of is how and what you were eating to feel your body.

Your body is performing incredible functions during pregnancy and it needs to be fed wholesome, nutritious foods. Pregnant people need about 300 extra calories a day.

What color is a healthy baby when it is is born?

It can be described as a purple or dark hue and that is normal. As baby cries and you bring your baby to your chest, it allows the transition from baby receiving oxygen from air rather than from the placenta.

As this happens, look for the skin to become more pink in their core and cheeks. By 5 minutes most healthy babies will have the pink tone we associate with a healthy newborn.
