Summit Fire & EMS and Red, White & Blue Fire Rescue will begin carrying whole blood on emergency vehicles - bringing hospital-level, life-saving care directly to trauma patients before they ever reach the ER.

Summit County joins just 1.3% of EMS agencies nationwide offering whole blood in the field. This initiative was made possible by a grant from the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration and in collaboration with CommonSpirit St. Anthony Summit Hospital, which means patients suffering severe bleeding can receive immediate, effective transfusions – potentially reducing deaths by up to 50%, and minimizing the long-term effects of their injuries.
