💙March Resident Spotlight🧡
Javene P
Born on February 18, 1926, in Decatur, Texas, Javene grew up surrounded by family: her parents, James and Christine Caswell, and her two sisters, Betty and Jody. Javene graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in 1944 and later earned her bachelor’s degree in English from Texas Women’s University. After college, she began her career with Blue Cross Blue Shield, where she worked for several years before marrying her husband, Harold.
Javene and Harold raised three children: David, Mike, and Christy. They lived in New Mexico and Arizona, where they owned and operated several butcher shops. Life during those years was full: long days, hard work, and the constant activity of raising a family. Eventually, the Palmers returned home to Texas.
After Harold’s passing, Javene remained active in her community. She became involved with the VFW Ladies Auxiliary, eventually serving as president. She spent many days there playing bingo, volunteering, and staying connected with familiar friends. It was also at the VFW where she met James, with whom she shared several years of companionship until his passing.
Now, at 100 years old, life has naturally slowed. She no longer does all the things she once did, but she carries with her a century’s worth of memories: seasons of joy, loss, family, work, friendships, and resilience. Simply reaching this milestone is a remarkable achievement.
We are proud to honor Javene Palmer as our Resident of the Month, celebrating not just her years, but the full and meaningful life they represent.
