Have you noticed you’re losing grip strength? Are you asking others to open jars for you, carry things, or open doors?

Grip strength is often one of the first strengths to decline as we age, if it is not intentionally trained. The good news is that grip strength can be continuously improved with consistent, well coached Pilates and strength training.

In Pilates, we keep fingers long and press from the pinky side of the hand firmly to activate the entire arm and connect to the back. This arm back connection is trained repeatedly on the reformer, tower and mat as well as during strength training, cycling and yoga. Over time, and through continuous movement, repetition and improved quality in the ex*****on of the exercises, we increase and improve coordination, and functional strength.

That strength carries directly into real life:
Carrying groceries
Doing house work
Walking our dogs
Lifting our kids/grand kids
Getting up and down from the floor
Swimming, walking, dancing
Pushing, pulling, and lifting weights
Reduces the chances of Alzheimer’s

A sedentary lifestyle accelerates decline of grip strength. After 40, we lose approximately 1 to 3 percent of muscle strength per year, with losses increasing each decade. Pilates addresses all of these together, and restores movement patterns that are intentional and purposeful.

A good pair of socks will change the way you move, the way you grip, the way you feel and absorb the exercises. Yes, exercises are absorbed into our bodies. When socks are slipping off your feet, when they have no grip or are loose, you then worry about your instability and lose the connection you are trying to find.

Socks have a life span also. They wear out and they need to be replaced periodically.

Put some good quality socks on your feet and tell me later how your movement changed .
