I don’t use textured breast implants.
Yes, the risk of BIA-ALCL is exceedingly rare—but rare isn’t the same as impossible. I’ve personally taken care of a patient who was referred to me that was ultimately diagnosed with this condition, and once you see it firsthand, the risk stops being theoretical.
For me, any potential benefit of a textured implant just isn’t worth even a small, avoidable risk when safer alternatives are available.
I’ll be sharing more details and some photos of this patient later this week—not to scare anyone, but to educate and be transparent about why I make the choices I do as a surgeon.
