The Conscious Gut is a space where biology meets compassion—where gut health, mental clarity, and emotional resilience are understood as deeply connected. Founded by functional nutritionist Sara Ganeian, our work centers on helping individuals move beyond symptom-chasing and into root-cause healing. With a blend of research-driven insight and lived experience, Sara guides clients through challenges like anxiety, burnout, brain fog, ADHD, and chronic gut imbalances—always with care, never with overwhelm. Here, we don’t just talk about food—we talk about what it means to feel safe, nourished, and supported in your body. It’s a process of remembering what your body already knows.

For over 20 years, I’ve been working with clients with SIBO, and one of the most frustrating things I see is this: you’ve done all the tests like colonoscopy, endoscopy, scans, and blood work, and everything comes back “normal,” but you still feel bloated, exhausted, foggy, and not like yourself. That’s because those tests are looking at the structure of your gut, not how it’s actually functioning. SIBO is a functional issue, which means it doesn’t show up on those tests, but that doesn’t make your symptoms any less real. This is exactly why I created my SIBO Recovery Roadmap to guide you step by step through testing, treatment, and what to do after so you’re not stuck guessing. You can find it along with free resources on my website theconsciousgut.com. 🤍

I’ve been working with clients with SIBO for the past 20 years, and one thing I can tell you is this, SIBO is not just “a little bloating.” It can affect everything from your digestion and energy to your hormones, mood, and even how your body responds to stress. I’ve seen clients go from feeling like their body is working against them to finally understanding what’s actually going on and how to fix it. That’s exactly why I created my SIBO Recovery Roadmap, it walks you through everything step by step so you’re not guessing or stuck in the cycle. If you’re dealing with symptoms and feel like you’re not getting answers, you can find more information and free resources on my website, theconsciousgut.com.

Studies have shown that adding just 10 grams of fiber a day can reduce the risk of colon cancer by about 10%. At the same time, colon cancer is one of the fastest-growing cancers in people under 50, which makes simple habits like increasing your daily fiber intake more important than ever. It’s one of the easiest and most effective things you can do to lower your risk. I also have a carefully curated smoothie guide on my website, theconsciousgut.com, designed with a variety of fibers, antioxidants, and gut-supportive ingredients to make it easy (and actually enjoyable) to get more fiber in each day🤍

I’ve been treating SIBO for the past 20 years, and I see different presentations all the time. It can truly impact everything in your body, from digestion to breathing and chest tightness, and in some cases, it can even mimic something as serious as a heart attack🤍

You don’t need perfection to be healthy. If organic is available to you, great. If not, don’t let that stop you—just eat the fruits and vegetables. Getting them in consistently matters far more than whether they’re organic or conventional. Your body benefits from the fiber, the nutrients, and the habit of showing up for your health every day. Keep it simple, keep it consistent, and just eat your fruits and veggies.

Based on working with clients over the past 20 years, one of the most frustrating parts of treating SIBO is when insurance does not cover rifaximin. The good news is that antimicrobials have shown similar efficacy in clinical studies. The main difference is that antibiotics are typically used for about two weeks, while antimicrobials usually take closer to six weeks. I cover that and everything else in my SIBO Recovery Roadmap Guide on my website, www.theconsciousgut.com

Stool tests cannot diagnose SIBO because they only reflect what is happening in the colon, not the small intestine where SIBO actually occurs. SIBO can only be diagnosed through a breath test, which measures gases produced by bacteria in the small intestine in real time. The most comprehensive option on the market right now is the Trio-Smart SIBO Breath Test, because it measures all three key gases hydrogen, methane, and hydrogen sulfide, giving a much more complete picture compared to older tests that miss part of the story.

Comment SMOOTHIE and I’ll send you the full guide.

This is a nutrition delivery system designed to actually do something for your body. Every combination inside this guide is intentional, not just for taste, but for function. Fiber to feed your microbiome, healthy fats to activate absorption, polyphenols to reduce inflammation, enzymes to support digestion. Ingredients that don’t just sit in your system, they work together.

Because the truth is, it’s not just what you put in your smoothie, it’s how those ingredients interact once they’re inside you.

These blends are built to:
-support gut lining and digestion
-reduce bloating and inflammation
-stabilize blood sugar and energy
-enhance detox pathways
-and increase microbial diversity

All in one glass.

And the best part, it’s the easiest way to consistently give your body what it’s been missing without overthinking every meal. Especially as we move into spring, when your body is naturally craving a reset, more lightness, more hydration, more support.
This is where it starts.

Not extreme. Not complicated. Just strategic nourishment, done daily.

Comment FUTURE and I’ll send you this week’s article.

Only 8% of Americans are considered metabolically healthy. Which means most people are walking around with signals their body is already sending, fatigue, blood sugar swings, inflammation, hormone imbalance, gut issues, but without the clarity to actually understand what’s going on underneath it.

This is exactly where wellness is changing.

The future of health is not more guessing. It’s more precision. It’s learning how to read your body through real data, your labs, your biomarkers, your gut, your nervous system, so you can stop chasing symptoms and start understanding the full picture.

Because symptoms are not random. They’re information.

And in 2026, wellness is shifting from reactive to proactive, from generic advice to deeply personalized care, from surface-level fixes to root-cause clarity. That’s exactly what I break down in this week’s article, The Future of Wellness: What 2026 Is Really About, a functional deep dive into the longevity trends that are reshaping how we age, thrive, and show up in our bodies.

If you’re tired of trying everything and still not feeling like yourself, this is the conversation you’ve been missing.

Comment SIBO and I’ll send you the quiz, the roadmap, and more info.

If you’ve been told it’s “just IBS,” but deep down you know your symptoms still aren’t adding up, this is where you start asking better questions. SIBO is still incredibly overlooked, and research consistently shows it’s more common in people with IBS than in controls, though estimates vary depending on how it’s tested.

That’s exactly why I created this guide.

Inside this 53 page guide, you’ll get a much clearer understanding of what SIBO is, how it develops, why it’s so often mistaken for IBS, and what signs, symptom patterns, and root causes may be pointing to a bigger story. We also walk through testing options, how to approach diagnosis, and foundational nutrition and lifestyle support, including tons of delicious recipes, so this feels supportive and practical, not overwhelming.

Because the goal is not to keep guessing. It’s to help you advocate for yourself, understand your body more clearly, and stop settling for an explanation that doesn’t fully explain what you’re living with.

If you’ve been dealing with bloating, constipation, diarrhea, food reactions, fatigue, or a gut that still feels confusing no matter how “healthy” you eat, this is the kind of resource that can help you look at the full picture with a lot more confidence.

Comment SIBO and I’ll send you the quiz, the roadmap, and more info.
