Go Find ONE, Inc. The genesis of Go Find One originates in a very personal struggle. There is a constant worry that they will be fired if an employer discovers their illness.

Raising awareness of mental illness and brain diseases and disorders through education of people to reduce the stigma and connect sufferers with existing resources for help. I have several family members or close friends that have died by suicide or have attempted it one or more times. I have family members that struggle with mental health issues and the judgement and embarrassment of "people finding out." At one point in my 30's, I was hearing a teenager describe her reason for attempting suicide and her continued despair. She had done some really bad things in her younger teens. She was trying to turn her life around, but she felt like every attempt she made, met with her parent's disapproval and constant expectation she would mess up again. She knew her parents did not trust her and she felt like they never would. In total embarrassment of her mistakes and the apparent futility of even trying to improve, she said "My parents hate me and will never forget or forgive me for my past mistakes. I have no reason to live." I looked at her and said, "then GO FIND ONE. Just one thing, today, is all you need. Maybe it is the green grass, or the blue sky. The ocean or the feel of the breeze on your skin. You just need one thing right now. Tomorrow, find another thing. You only need ONE each day." When things get tough and you want to quit...just GO FIND ONE. Let it be enough!

I was in the hospital again 2 weeks ago, for ten days. Now attending a partial hospitalization program (PHP). This was my 4th hoitalization in the last 3 yrs, Only one of those programs felt like staff actually cared and I wasn't treated like a criminal, or worse.

I haven't figured out yet why mental illness (I prefer brain illness) provokes contempt but diabetes or heart disease or cancer garner sympathy? I'm dumbfounded by the ignorance of it.

The goal of GO FIND ONE is to educate people, to reduce the stigma. To that end, I was reminded today, by a man who was in-patient with me and now in PHP with me, that I told him I want to write a book. My story, interlaced with the personal stories of people who share theirs with me.

If you share here, I would not use anything you post in this book, unless given express permission. I hope the book will provide hope to those that have none, those who are scared and scarred, and those desiring help navigating the less than adequate mental health system in the US today. My recent 10 day stay came at a cost of approximately $75-100,000. I haven't gotten the bill yet, and because I have met my Out of Pocket max, my bill will be zero. Imagine if I didn't have Healthcare? Treatment would not have been an option. That scenario should not be the reality in what is supposedly the richest nation on the planet. I'm hoping we can foster change.

It's been awhile since you've heard from us. Our lives got messy and we missed the opportunity to share those struggles and truths behind them.

We are back, better and stronger, we hope.

We need more hands to help build this dream.into reality.

We need about 5 more Volunteer Board Members. We'd love 1 to be a knowledgeable attorney and 1 to have a strong accounting background. Another need is an person experienced in non-profit fund-raising and/or grant writing.

We added a new admin, Patrice Pugh, who should be introducing herself soon. I'd like to have several more interested parties be admins for our social media presence.

you can Call 988 ...National emergency # for mental health emergenies, approved in Sept 2020 and will be rolled out nationally on July 16, 2022. Calls will be routed to knowledgeable MH care workers.
