In all forms, cannabis (ma*****na) has an impact on your brain in many ways. It negatively affects the areas that control memory and emotion, leading to serious consequences such as memory loss, increased depression and anxiety, and psychosis. Some people have reported an increase in suicidal thoughts or tendencies. The younger you are when you begin using cannabis, the greater the impact it has and the greater the chance you develop a cannabis use disorder, because your brain is still developing (until age 25 for men and 22 for women).

The holidays are a time for family, fun, and celebration, but they’re also a chance to remind our kids about making safe, healthy choices. It’s important to have conversations about alcohol and other substance use during this festive season.

🎧 Listen to the "Talk. They Hear You." campaign's "What Parents Are Saying" podcast, where parents share tips on celebrating safely and discussing alcohol and other substance use prevention. Let’s ensure our children can enjoy the holidays responsibly!

In Project COURAGE (Creating Opportunities for Understanding and Resilience Amidst Gaining our Education), we have three staff members who work one-on-one with over 80 students each school year. These children have experienced some sort of trauma, such as domestic violence, death of a loved one, sexual assault, or bullying. Our staff members work to help these children learn anger management, coping strategies, and stress management. They also work with siblings and families and strive to support the families in creating a stable home environment. This program is partially funded by a grant but needs an additional $15,000 to be fully funded for this school year. Become an annual sponsor, and you can help make a difference for these children!

Part of working to develop hope in your life is building characteristics that support it. One of those is zest--approaching life with excitement and energy. Being zesty in your approach to life helps you to be resilient, to bounce back with challenges arise and to continue to believe that your dreams can come true.

Be hopeful. Be resilient. Be zesty!

You don’t have to stop smoking in one day.

Start with day one.

Quitting smoking isn’t easy. It takes time. And a plan. You don’t have to stop smoking in one day. Start with day one. Let the Great American Smokeout® event on the third Thursday in November be day one of your journey toward a smoke-free life. You’ll be joining thousands of people across the country who smoke in taking an important step toward a healthier life and reducing your cancer risk. Plus, the American Cancer Society can help you access the resources and support you need to quit.

Quitting starts here.

Say nice things on Facebook. Speak words of encouragement to each other. Hold the door. Sponsor a child for Christmas. Fill a Blessing Box. Send a thank-you note. The possibilities are endless. Take a moment and take action!

For some people, trying to cope with the cravings caused by a substance use disorder while trying to also heal from past trauma and repair relationships is overwhelming. The combination can contribute to a return to use. Medication Assisted Therapy (MAT) can help with the cravings, allowing the person to address their relationships and the emotional pain that is often at the root of their substance misuse.

This Veterans Day, we thank and honor those who have served. We also recognize the unique role veterans play as parents.

The "Talk. They Hear You." campaign provides tools to help veteran families discuss the risks of alcohol and other substance use with their children. We want to ensure that veterans feel equipped to navigate these important discussions within their homes.

One of our We See You, Warren County folks forwarded this to us and asked us to share it. It's a bit belated to organize something, but if this strikes a chord within you, perhaps you can put it on your calendar for next year:

🌍✨First WORLD FREQUENCY DAY - November 11, 2025 ✨🌍

On 11/11 at 11:11 AM (your local time), people around the world will take a moment to tune in together.

This is the first World Frequency Day, a global invitation to pause with purpose.

To use sound, stillness, movement, or intention to reconnect, with ourselves and each other.

From yoga studios to classrooms, living rooms to city streets, every moment matters.

We’re inviting artists, creators, wellness centers, schools, families, and friends to take part in their own way: a meditation, a sound bath, a jam session, a mindful breath, or a circle of intention.

💫 How to tune in together:

• Host a gathering, big or small
• Invite your community to join
• Pause at 11:11 AM for a shared moment of awareness
• Share your moment with

This is a global wave of presence, resonance, and unity.

Together, we create something beautiful.

Will you join the wave? 〰️

Moving from active addiction into recovery is a process. Those who have made the journey have said they didn't see how it was possible, because success seemed so far away. But they did it, and each person has their own story to tell. While miraculous, cold-turkey success stories exist, so do stories of taking the recovery journey moment by moment, day by day. Make the decision to begin. Talk with a peer recovery specialist who has been there and knows what you are going through. They can help you figure out the next step. Contact us or visit our website for more information.
