Once again, I've been pretty silent. Lot going on. But that's not why I am posting.
Today is November 5, 2024, in the US: Election Day. If you have not done so already, please go vote. This is perhaps the most important election of our lives up to this point. Go to iwillvote.com to confirm your polling place and voter registration. Take a friend or family member. Who you vote for is your business.
That being said, we cannot have 2016 again. People might say "you're a white, cishet male. What do you have to worry about?"
That's true. I am one. But I have children. I worry about my daughter and my sons. I worry about my partner. My sister. My cousins. My family. My LGBTQIA2S+ friends. My friends of color. Another Trump presidency is not safe for them.
People have the right to gender-affirming care. Women and AFAB people have the right to contraceptives and abortion. People have the right to marry who they want to marry. This election is about more than just the economy; while the subjects of costs of goods and services and the discussion of taxes are important to think about, this election is about so much more. It is about human rights.
We must retain the right to be who we are, make decisions about our own bodies free of persecution, hold our leaders accountable without the risk of being labeled an enemy.
No matter what happens after the polls close tonight, it is going to be stressful. There will be tumult. There will be tension. Polls will not close until this evening, and we will likely not have a winner declared tonight.
Keep in mind the red mirage and the blue shift. More sparsely populated areas will have their votes counted first as there are less ballots; these areas tend to lean more red, so early on, it will look like Trump is winning. He may try to declare victory early. Do not lose hope.
The blue shift will follow this as larger population centers get counted. These larger cities have much denser populations and tend to lean blue. The MAGA believers may try to declare fraud. Do not fall for it. This is simply how the electoral process works. Keep the faith.
Tonight, if you want to watch the election results, find a trusted creator on social media, and watch that way. I would recommend Phillip DeFranco, Aaron Parnas, or V. Spehar with Under the Desk News. All the legacy media outlets will be providing coverage as well.
We've got this. We are not going back. Remember, Black Lives Matter, Trans people are the gender they identify as, respect pronouns, and finally...
F**k Donald J. Trump.
