Repeat after me: “My worth as a mother is NOT defined in ounces.”

It also isn’t define in whether you pump or nurse. Or how long you provide breastmilk to your baby for. Or what’s in their bottle.

Share with mom who needs to hear this 🤍

Silver ni**le covers are genuinely one of the best tools for healing cracked, damaged ni**les. But there is one mistake I see moms making that basically cancels out all the benefits..

Using them on top of creams.

Lanolin, ni**le butter, coconut oil, whatever your go-to is, if you are putting silver covers over any of that, the silver cannot pe*****te through the cream to actually heal your ni**le. You have just turned a really effective healing tool into a very expensive cover for your lotion essentially.

Silver works by direct contact with the skin. That is it. Clean, dry ni**le, (a drop or two of expressed breastmilk over top is fine!) then the cover goes on. Nothing else in between.

If you have been doing it the other way, now you know!

And if you know a mom who is using silver ni**le covers, send this to her because she probably does not know either!

Comment below SILVER and I’ll send you a link and discount code to my favorite silver ni**le covers!

Silver ni**le covers are not something I recommend wearing 24/7, and here is why.

When worn continuously, they can cause their own issues. And because milk collects inside them, you end up with a warm, dark, moist environment..which is exactly the kind of environment bacteria love.

If you want to use them, they can absolutely be helpful, especially for sore or damaged ni**les. Just think of using them in smaller increments rather than around the clock. I recommend wearing them for no more than 3-4 hours at a time, and not more than ~8 hours total in a 24 hour period.

And if you are reaching for silver covers because you have cracking or breakdown, these aren’t normal and are a sign we need to get to the root of what is actually causing the damage. Silver covers can support healing in the short term, but they should not become a long term, expensive bandage for a problem that still needs to be addressed.

Your ni**les deserve more than a workaround.

Send this to a mom who may have these on her registry or is already using them and save her the trouble prolonged usage may cause!

If you’ve been sized into a 24mm or 28mm fl**ge, please, please PLEASE get a second opinion.

In 4 years of private practice, I have yet to size a single client into either of those sizes.

Do some women need them? Yes. But they are very, very rare.

And here’s why this matters: the right fl**ge size means more milk, removed faster, with less discomfort. All three of those things directly impact your supply.
If something feels off, trust that instinct and find someone who will actually look at your fit, not just “guess” your size from across the room.

Comment INSURANCE below and I’ll check if your insurance covers fl**ge fittings.

Have you ever heard the phrase “If you can find your baby, you can feed your baby?”

I don’t love this as a guideline for alcohol and breastfeeding. Being able to locate your child is a pretty low bar for safety. 🙃

Here’s what’s actually happening in your body:
Alcohol moves freely between your bloodstream and your breast milk. As your liver metabolizes it and clears it from your bloodstream it clears from your milk too. It does not get “trapped.” Pumping and dumping does nothing except remove the milk currently in your breasts.

The concentration of alcohol in your breast milk mirrors your blood alcohol level. So if you’ve had two 5% beers and you’re sitting at a 0.08 BAC, the legal driving limit, that’s also the percentage of alcohol in your milk. Not even a tenth of a percent.

The general guideline? If you’re safe to drive, you’re likely safe to feed.

Now you know you can enjoy a drink or two without feeling like you now have to pump and dump.

Have you ever been told your baby is a “lazy” breastfeeder?

First off, I want to apologize if anyone has ever said that to you.

Babies are not lazy.

When a baby is struggling at the breast, they are communicating with us in one of the only ways they can.

Something is making it hard for them to transfer milk effectively, whether that’s excessive sleepiness, a latch challenge, or something going on physically that needs to be addressed.

“Lazy” puts the blame on your baby. The real question is: what is getting in the way?

That’s what we should be asking NOT telling families their babies are lazy.

Have you ever been told your baby was a lazy eater? What was your experience?

And if you have a baby who is struggling to move milk either at the breast or the bottle, I’d love to support you. I offer virtual visits worldwide and am in-network with many major insurance companies in the US. Text me at 507-570-5573 and let’s work toward your feeding goals together, whatever those look like for your family. 🤍

Our sweet April Fool’s Day baby is TWO!

We blinked and our girl is two. It feels like it wasn’t that long ago that we were bringing Brynne home and telling our families that no, this wasn’t an April Fools Day joke and that she was really here!

Brynne keeps us all on our toes and brings our family so much joy with her little personality. Keep shining my sweet girl! 🥰

Sunflower lecithin is one of the most common recommendations for clogged ducts. BUT, it’s one I don’t make.

It’s seed oil derived, which means it can drive gut inflammation. There are better options that actually support your body instead of working against it.

Comment or DM me TIP and I’ll send you my go-to recommendation for clogged ducts and mastitis. The best part? It’s something you can increase through food alone. No supplement required (though you can take it that way too).

If pumping is going to be part of your breastfeeding journey, having a high-quality double electric pump is SO important!

Here are 4 solid options I often recommend (not an all-inclusive list, just a great starting point):

Spectra (upgrade to the S1/blue if it’s in your budget so you’re not stuck by an outlet)
Pumpables Genie Advanced. Ccompact, powerful, and great for more mobility (code GETTINGLACTATION gives you a discount)
Baby Buddha – tiny but mighty, this one packs a serious punch (code GETTINGLACTATION works here too)
Motif Luna – a reliable, strong option many families do really well with

Everyone responds differently, so sometimes it takes a little trial and error to find your best fit and fl**ge size is ALWAYS important too.

Tell me in the comments:
Did you use one of these?
What would you add to the list?
Or did you find something else that worked really well for you? I love hearing what works well for others and I’m sure other moms would love to know too!

The fl**ge material conversation nobody is having enough.

Plastic? Silicone? Silicone inserts? They’re not interchangeable. And the one you think sounds best isn’t always the one your body responds to best.

In my practice, I have consistently found over and over that most moms pump more efficiently in a hard plastic fl**ge. Not always. But more often than not!

Comment TIP below and I’ll send you an additional tip on fl**ges!

Hot Take: Nursing your baby to sleep IS NOT creating a bad habit that will need to be broken.

Feeding your baby to sleep is biologically normal and honestly like your own superpower as a mom.

If you’re hearing from others this is a bad habit that needs to be broken, but it feels right to you, lean into that instinct, friend. 🤍
