Sunflower lecithin is one of the most common recommendations for clogged ducts. BUT, it’s one I don’t make.

It’s seed oil derived, which means it can drive gut inflammation. There are better options that actually support your body instead of working against it.

Comment or DM me TIP and I’ll send you my go-to recommendation for clogged ducts and mastitis. The best part? It’s something you can increase through food alone. No supplement required (though you can take it that way too).

If pumping is going to be part of your breastfeeding journey, having a high-quality double electric pump is SO important!

Here are 4 solid options I often recommend (not an all-inclusive list, just a great starting point):

Spectra (upgrade to the S1/blue if it’s in your budget so you’re not stuck by an outlet)
Pumpables Genie Advanced. Ccompact, powerful, and great for more mobility (code GETTINGLACTATION gives you a discount)
Baby Buddha – tiny but mighty, this one packs a serious punch (code GETTINGLACTATION works here too)
Motif Luna – a reliable, strong option many families do really well with

Everyone responds differently, so sometimes it takes a little trial and error to find your best fit and fl**ge size is ALWAYS important too.

Tell me in the comments:
Did you use one of these?
What would you add to the list?
Or did you find something else that worked really well for you? I love hearing what works well for others and I’m sure other moms would love to know too!

The fl**ge material conversation nobody is having enough.

Plastic? Silicone? Silicone inserts? They’re not interchangeable. And the one you think sounds best isn’t always the one your body responds to best.

In my practice, I have consistently found over and over that most moms pump more efficiently in a hard plastic fl**ge. Not always. But more often than not!

Comment TIP below and I’ll send you an additional tip on fl**ges!

Hot Take: Nursing your baby to sleep IS NOT creating a bad habit that will need to be broken.

Feeding your baby to sleep is biologically normal and honestly like your own superpower as a mom.

If you’re hearing from others this is a bad habit that needs to be broken, but it feels right to you, lean into that instinct, friend. 🤍

Today is IBCLC day! 🎉

So I thought I’d take today to reintroduce myself here in case we haven’t met, you’re new here, or haven’t ever heard my story!

My name is Cassie Getting and I’ve been an IBCLC for 4 years now and prior to that I was a certified lactation counselor. I’ve been in private practice for coming up on four years this summer, which is WILD that’s it’s already been that long!

I love being in private practice as it allows me to serve you in the best way for YOU and YOUR family and isn’t dictated by insurance, time constraints of traditional healthcare, and allows me to be flexible in meeting with you as the client when clinics aren’t typically open & allows me to see you in the comtort of your own home or virtually in addition to in my office!

My background is in nursing. I’ve been a Registered Nurse for 10 years and have worked in Pediatrics, the NICU, rural medicine doing a bit of everything, including Med-Surg & ER, and finally, labor, delivery, and postpartum! My heart has always been with moms and babies though and has grown for it even more since becoming a mom myself.

I’m a stay at home mom and homeschool our children in addition to my role in private practice and have four littles, ages 7, 6, 4, & almost 2!

I’ve struggled with breastfeeding my own babies & because of this wanted to bridge the gap in our rural area of Southwest Minnesota in providing lactation support to moms, infants, and their families. I’ve loved over the last year really expanding my virtual practice which allows me to see families all United States and even world (this week alone I have clients from 5 different states! 🤯)

From my own struggles, my love for lactation & supporting families in their journeys was born. My struggles became my ministry and mission and there’s nothing I love more than to walk alongside families in feeding their babies!

Enough about me, where are you at?! Let me know in the comments!

If they haven’t physically challenged babies tongue to see if it can extend beyond the gumline and maintain that extension, move their tongue from side to side, elevate their entire tongue upwards, or felt baby suck on their finger but are telling you your baby doesn’t have ties….

Then I’m not sure they’re qualified to tell you that. Ties aren’t based off of how something looks, but how something functions. When function is restricted is when there’s a problem worth investigating further into.

Bottle refusal isn’t a bottle problem. It’s a bottle skill problem.

Most parents spend weeks trying every bottle on the market, when really what their baby needs isn’t just the “perfect” bottle… it’s someone to help them develop the skills they don’t yet have.

That’s exactly what I help with. I specialize in bottle refusal and work with families anywhere in the world virtually, so no matter where you are, support is available.

And one last note on bottle refusal- it is NOT your fault, friend. I’m here to support you and help you feed your baby somewhere besides at your own breast.

If your baby is struggling to take a bottle, DM me the word REFUSAL to book a discovery call. Let’s figure out what your baby actually needs.

If you’re wincing every time your baby latches and someone has told you “that’s just how it is at first”

I want you to hear this loud and clear: that is just not true. Pain is a signal, not a rite of passage. Even a latch that “looks good” on the outside can be a problem. You deserve answers. DM me and let’s figure this out together, friend.🫶🏻

Let’s talk about mixing breast milk temperatures.

You can safely add room temperature or freshly expressed milk to already chilled milk. There’s no data or evidence showing this promotes bacterial growth.

Some people prefer to chill fresh milk first out of an abundance of caution, and that’s totally fine! But it’s not a necessary step if you don’t want to take the extra time.

Do what works best for YOU and your feeding routine. Both methods are safe. 🫶🏻

Share with mom friend who might need this time saving hack.

The low down or in this case, the let down (see what I did there?! 🤣) on wearable pumps:

For 95% of breastfeeding moms, exclusively using a wearable pump when returning to work or if you’re exclusively pumping, just isn’t going to work.. I’m sorry! I truly wish it would because I absolutely get it, it is SO much more convenient and manageable vs lugging around a giant pump or being tied to an outlet.

But there’s a trade off for that convenience factor, and the suction just isn’t the same, despite claims of being hospital grade or that it reaches the same levels as other quality pumps, it just doesn’t remove milk as well for *most* moms.

This may mean decreased supply, little by little, leading to no longer producing enough milk, and the potential for clogged ducts and mastitis due to ineffective removal of milk.

So while this style of breast pump is a very convenient option, it is almost never one I recommend using as your sole pump if you’re away from your baby regularly.

Have you used a wearable pump before? If so, was there a make/model you had success or trouble with? I’d love to hear your experience in the comments and be sure to share this with a mom who may be considering a wearable pump but doesn’t understand how it can impact supply.
