🥼 What is a PET/CT?
A Positron Emission Tomography/Computed Tomography scan uses a tiny amount of radiotracer to show how tissues are functioning (PET) and pairs it with detailed cross-sectional images (CT). The fused images localize abnormalities precisely, so your care team knows what’s active and where it is.
ㅤ
🥼 When is PET/CT Used?
- Oncology: diagnose and stage cancer, check for spread, evaluate treatment response, detect recurrence
- Neurology: support diagnosis and management of dementias, Parkinson’s, Huntington's, epilepsy, and assess brain changes
- Surgical/Trauma Planning: help localize targets before brain procedures and evaluate for bleeding, perfusion, or hematoma after head injury
- Cardiology: assess myocardial perfusion (blood flow to the heart muscle) to guide therapies aimed at improving circulation
