The Fulton County Senior Citizens is conducting its second capital campaign fund drive now through May 15, 2018.
In trying to decide how to word this letter, I look back over the years and think about the lives we have touched and individuals we have helped. The list is a long list and I, as director, wonder why we have had to struggle so much with trying to keep the centers afloat financially. I have come to the conclusion that the communities and the local cities and county governments only see what we do at the centers.
Although the centers play a critical role for the individuals who come to the centers, I believe our most important services are the services we provide to the home bound individuals and are rarely, if ever seen or heard about.
Telephone reassurance calls to check on our elderly population and home delivered meals for individuals who are in the worst need for a hot, nourishing meal are our areas where we really shine. Think about itβif you were alone and isolated, how important would that telephone call or that knock on the door delivering a hot meal be to you. Yes, the centers provide a clean and friendly place where seniors can gather to have fun with games, puzzles, health education, exercise and hot meals and those that come to the centers are greatly appreciated. But our outlying senior community is just as important.
The senior centers are the only full service county wide organization in Fulton County and a resource that would be greatly missed if they had to close due to funding. Our state and local funding has been reduced to 78%. The remainder has to be made up of donations and fundraisers.
If we could just find 250 individuals in all of Fulton County willing to donate $25.00 a month, we would reach our goal of $6,250.00 per month or a yearly sum of $75,000.00.
Will you join with us in making a really big difference in an elderly personβs life?
Sincerely,
Judy Milner, Director
