You are the Ancestors.
You are the Descendants.
You are the Earth.
You are the Sky.
You are Everything.
Say it with me. Let it settle in your bones.
It's not poetry. It's truth.
When you feel disconnected, remember: you carry generations within you. You are made of soil and starlight. You belong to this web of life.
Animism starts with this simple recognition, and it's possible to cultivate a spiritual path that carries this recognition through everything you do.
When I first wrote that people thought I meant human-person community. And I did, but also more than that. More-than-human cmomunity. 🌿
We're taught to go it alone, to figure everything out by ourselves. But real growth happens in relationship—with each other, with the land, with the quiet spaces between us.
In truth, there's no such thing as alone, ever. That's a colonialist projection.
And that's why I build community into everything I do. Because your path deserves witnesses, and you need others helping you hold that space as you cultivate that awareness.

If you are looking for an animistic toolkit for an unraveling world, join me for The Quest Series, beginning in January.
Animism doesn’t offer shortcuts through that unraveling, yet it does give us ways to stay present, relational, and rooted while moving through it. It teaches us how to stay awake to our choices, to navigate difficulty without abandoning ourselves or the world around us.
I've taught seekers to build ethical, sustainable animistic paths for 30 years. When I call The Quest Series the modern animist’s toolkit, I mean it literally.
It isn’t a romanticized throwback or an imagined reconstruction of what our Ancestors might have done. Animism is a living, contemporary practice shaped for how we function today — one that supports right relationship with land, Ancestors, and community.
Immersive tending for the Broken Path.
Land-rooted.
Cosmology-led.
Community-held.
Being a good elder means holding space for stories, community, and tending.
But how do we learn to do that in a culture that values none of that? That doesn't even value elders?
The Quest Series offers gentle guidance to begin walking that path on your own terms. Your journey toward deeper connection with Nature is where true elderhood begins If we can't hold the persnhood of nature, we can't see the personhood of each other. Of ourSelves. 🌿✨

These aren't rituals from another time or place. They're yours. They work because you show up.
Learn how to stay in relationship with them in The Quest Series. Registration closes 16 December.

We're meant to be actively involved in our spiritual growth, which is not to say that the soul needs to grow. I've never bought into that. Rather, our earthly awareness, our earthly consciousness is designed to be more engaged with our soul, so that we are living what we came here to do, through every day. Our culture, however, has other plans.
The Quest Series holds tools for those curious about animism and how holding awareness of Nature through our everyday has everything to do with our work here.
Cultivating land-based kinship means listening deeply to the earth beneath your feet — not as a backdrop, but as kin.
This connection isn’t just spiritual; it molds how you care for yourself and the community around you for life.
When we honor this relationship, we heal old wounds and plant seeds for a better world.

Soul Intent Arts - Embodied Soul Tending Through Nature
I’m Kelley Harrell, and I believe we can do better.
I believe we all share the calling to be fit, embodied elders, who upon death become wise, capable Ancestors. To fulfill that calling, we must respond at a soul level. Through actionable animism I teach others to find their unique spiritual paths in support of their quiet dead, healed ancestors, fellow humans, and peaceful coexistence with the spirits of the land they live on.
I’m an author, lifelong deathwalker and animist, and the founder of Soul Intent Arts on traditional Sissipahaw land in North Carolina. As an ordained interfaith minister, I teach others to ethically build a thriving spiritual path. My work is Nature-based, and focuses soul tending through the Elder Futhark runes, animism, ancestral healing, and deathwork.
Elder well, Die well, Ancestor well.
I offer classes, personal mentoring, longterm training through The Spirited Path, a one-year intensive study on the Elder Futhark--Reclaiming the Runes, and other classes. Contact me for mentoring sessions, or for information about The Spirited Path.
