There’s often confusion about what insurance will cover when it comes to abdominal procedures.

In some cases, insurance may cover a panniculectomy if certain criteria are met. A panniculectomy simply removes the lower apron of excess skin. It does not include liposuction, tightening the abdominal wall, repositioning the belly button, or repairing diastasis (muscle separation).

A tummy tuck (abdominoplasty), on the other hand, is designed to restore the abdominal contour. It allows the surgeon to tighten the abdominal muscles, remove excess skin, reposition the belly button, and refine the waistline.
