👶 👶🏽 What’s normal newborn behavior… and what’s not? 👶🏿👶🏻 . .
Did you know your baby will p**p a black, tar like stool called meconium after (or maybe during!) birth ? 💩 . .
I had the pleasure of chatting with ‘s HypnoBirthing class. They had great questions! We looked at pictures and videos showing normal things - and abnormal. . .
At Thrive Pediatrics - our families can call or text Dr. Patel directly if any abnormal behavior is noticed. It’s a direct line to her. This is family-centered care. . .

🤧 Breastfeeding and Cold Medications

If you’re breastfeeding and come down with a cold, it can be confusing to know what’s safe to take. 💊

Here’s a quick guide:
🚫 Avoid oral or nasal decongestants like pseudoephedrine or phenylephrine — they can lower milk supply.
✅ Safe options include guaifenesin, dextromethorphan, and nasal saline for congestion.
🌼 For allergies, loratadine, cetirizine, and fexofenadine are generally safe choices.

Always check with your healthcare provider before starting any new medication — every parent and baby pair is unique. 💕

👩‍⚕️ At Thrive Pediatrics, we care for both you and your baby — because your wellness matters too.

🌿 Cultivating Gratitude in Our Kids

Gratitude doesn’t just make us feel good — it strengthens relationships, builds empathy, and helps kids navigate challenges with more resilience. 💛

Here are a few simple ways to help children practice gratitude in everyday life:

✨ Model it. Let your child see you express thanks — to your partner, a neighbor, or even the barista who hands you your coffee.

🌅 Start a gratitude ritual. End the day by sharing one thing you each appreciated — big or small.

📬 Put it into words. Encourage thank-you notes, drawings, or texts to friends and teachers.

🌿 Pause to notice. Whether it’s a warm blanket, a sunny day, or a friend’s laughter — teach them to slow down and name what feels good.

The more we practice gratitude together, the more it becomes part of how our children see the world. 💕

👩‍⚕️ At Thrive Pediatrics, we believe wellbeing goes beyond physical health — it’s about nurturing emotional growth and connection too.

🎯 Keeping Our Community Protected from Measles

There’s been a confirmed case of measles in our community, so I wanted to take a moment to share how we can all help keep our kids — and especially our youngest babies — protected.

👶 Babies under 6 months are too young to receive the measles vaccine. The best way to protect them is to make sure that everyone around them is fully immunized. That means having two doses of the MMR (measles, mumps, rubella) vaccine.

💉 Babies 6 months and older can receive an early dose of the MMR vaccine, especially if there’s known exposure or cases nearby.

🏫 Preschool- and school-aged children should have received two doses of the MMR vaccine — one at 12–15 months and the second at 4–6 years. If you’re unsure, reach out to your pediatrician to confirm that your child’s immunizations are up to date.

When our community’s immunity is strong, we protect not only our own children but also newborns, infants, and those who can’t yet be vaccinated. ❤️

Let’s continue to look out for one another and keep our little ones safe.
