Angel House of Georgia

Angel House of Georgia Angel House of Georgia is a long term recovery residence for women, who are age 18 and older, that are seeking recovery from drug and/or alcohol addiction Ms.

Angel House of Georgia was established in May of 2011 and is currently approved through GARR (Georgia Recovery Residence), THOR Directory (Transitional Housing for Offender Re-entry) and a non-profit 501 (c)(3) organization. English established Angel House with a vision of helping women recover from alcohol and drug addiction. With a background in business, English didn’t have experience in substance abuse treatment. However, she’s seen it first hand while watching her boyfriend of five years struggle and finally seek help. “I’m not an addict, but I have been able to see the other side of how drugs affect the family,” said English. “I’ve been affected by it. I’ve been living with someone that’s a drug addict.” In going to treatment meetings with her boyfriend, English met people who told her about the area’s lack of woman-focused residential treatment centers. Many enter treatment in surrounding counties, leaving their families behind for the entirety of the stay, she was told. Wanting to fill that void and help those who have struggled like her boyfriend, English decided to open a recovery residence. She rented a home, hired a substance abuse counselor and brought a clinical director on board to offer emotional counseling. She’s funded the venture privately. After receiving the first resident in June of 2011 of this 12 month program, Angel House has now proudly graduated several women who still continue to have a life free of active addiction. We currently house 16 women and are at full capacity.

Great advice for the Holidays!

The holidays can feel overwhelming and stressful. Setting boundaries is an opportunity to advocate for ourselves and our self-care. Boundaries create a safe space – emotionally, cognitively, physically – and empower us to make healthy choices.

The story is not happening to you but is happening around you in this moment. We have choices as to what story we are in and what role we will play. Your perspective, attitude and actions determine your role in the story. As you change your role, you may find the roles others play around you may change and some of us may even decide to change the cast of characters in the story of our choosing.
