Melissa B Miller, Ed.S., LMHC Melissa B.

Private counseling for depression, anxiety, relationship issues, and other life experiences or transitions, with specialties in women's development and reproductive health, infertility, identity; LGBTQ+ gender-affirming, sex-positive care. Miller, Ed.S, LMHC:

I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in Florida with over 17 years of experience providing therapeutic services to adults, adolescents, and children in Florida, Virginia, and Washington, D.C. These experiences have allowed me to meet you at every level of care, from seeking counseling for your own personal growth, stress management, or relationship problems, to those in immediate crisis. Though I am a generalist, my particular areas of interest are in women’s health and development across the life span, reproductive health and LGBTQ+-affirming services, chronic illness, and maternal/paternal mental health. As a proud University of Florida graduate, I also enjoy helping students navigate through the challenges that present themselves during that often difficult time that many say is “the greatest years in one’s life”.

IMPORTANT TESTING UPDATE: The Alachua County Health Department is offering COVID-19 testing to Alachua County residents, regardless of symptoms. Residents who want a COVID-19 test are asked to call (352) 334-8810 for an appointment. A referral from a doctor is not required. If your insurance covers this, it will be billed and no copay is required. If not, it is free. We expect an initial surge of calls. You may have to call back.

Clarification: The new expanded testing capacity of the local Department of Health is not an Antibody Test. Please do not call to inquire about that as it is tying up the phone line. We want people who wish to be tested to get through to set up an appointment.

Social distancing means no in-person sessions, so here's how to use online therapy for your mental health.

This is definitely not a time for visiting, but it's a great time to give someone a call. They will be delighted to hear your voice. You will love to hear their voices. Seriously: call.

“... feelings you don’t feel don’t simply go away. They don’t seep into the ground never to return again. In fact, it’s more like the water cycle. Whatever the earth absorbs eventually comes back as rain. Except in this version of the water cycle, the more water that goes unused and unprocessed, the bigger the storm. Water you ignore comes back with fury, demanding your attention, raining big, angry drops on your head.”

Sound familiar? Are you a “high functioning” professional, student, SAHParent finally feeling the impact of this storm? This is one of several tools I use to help others stuck in the trap of intellectualization vs fear of uncontrollable emotion.

"I hope it's a tool that can help you too."
