STATEMENTS VS QUESTIONS⁣

With our littles, modeling language is CRUCIAL in development.⁣
⁣
While it’s easy to ask questions,I challenge you to try these strategies instead.....⁣
⁣
1️⃣Leave off “do you” “should we” “can I”⁣
•Instead try making a statement to MODEL language versus elicit a yes/no response⁣
⁣
2️⃣Make statements versus asking⁣
* COMMENT instead of ask! This teaches another language function ⁣
⁣
3️⃣ Use self talk to model⁣
•Talk about what YOU are doing to take the pressure off the kiddo⁣
⁣
4️⃣ Say the wrong thing on purpose⁣
•SABOTAGE! To see if your kiddo truly understands a concept, say something wrong and see if they catch you!⁣
⁣
5️⃣Say nothing, but do something wrong⁣
•During okay, put a shoe on your head instead of a hat, or put a toy backwards in a car. Do they notice and make a change?⁣
⁣

It’s important to note that we will allll end up doing some of the don’ts sometimes- and that’s ok- but we definitely need to be aware and try to decrease those while increasing the positive communication supports!
