NVERS EMS Programs

NVERS EMS Programs This page is designed to disseminate information for the NVERS EMS Programs (formerly N VA EMS Council).

For over 40 years, the Northern Virginia EMS Council provided coordination and oversight to the very large and complex EMS system in Northern Virginia. In 2024, NVEMSC made the decision to merge with the Northern Virginia Emergency Response System (NVERS), and we are pleased to announce that the merger was finalized, effective January 6, 2025. Who We Are:
NVERS is a robust emergency preparedness and response alliance of public safety and healthcare delivery systems that supports regional collaboration and capacity building in all facets of emergency preparedness. Together, the coalition is building emergency preparedness and response capabilities that can’t be achieved alone by facilitating a cross-jurisdictional and multi-disciplinary approach to preparedness. This resilient partnership of public safety systems saves lives, time, and economic resources during major emergencies and disasters in Northern Virginia. Active participants in NVERS include Fire/EMS, Law Enforcement, Emergency Management, Hospitals, Public Health, Information Technology, Public Information, Transit/Transportation, Utilities, and State and Federal partners. NVERS operates as a dynamic regional organization that excels in solving common preparedness and response challenges. How NVERS Approaches Regional EMS:
NVERS’ Regional EMS Programs provide the trusted services you’ve relied on with the EMS Council for over 40 years, with enhanced collaboration and exceptional customer service. Some examples include:
• Technical Assistance

• Life-saving Innovation

AHA ACLS & PALS Apps Updated to Reflect 2025 Guidelines Science!

The American Heart Association’s Adult Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) apps have been updated to incorporate the latest science from the 2025 Heart Association Guidelines for CPR and ECC. These officially endorsed digital health solutions provide clinicians with point-of-care support for running codes and delivering lifesaving care. Users gain rapid access to clinical protocols, algorithms, and drug dosing
information—all designed to help healthcare professionals and EMS deliver the highest standard of care.

Key features:

ACLS App:
* 4 ACLS algorithms: Cardiac Arrest, Tachycardia with Pulse, Bradycardia with Pulse, Post-Cardiac Arrest Care
* Complete ACLS content, including drug therapy, dosing, and reversible causes

PALS App:
* PALS pathways: Cardiac Arrest, Tachycardia with Pulse, Bradycardia with Pulse, Post-Cardiac Arrest Care, Critical Care References
* Comprehensive PALS content with drug therapy and dosing

New features for both Apps:
* “Notes” section in the Cardiac Arrest Code Runner to record important non-PHI information
* Downloadable events log for quick review and documentation
* Intubation logging to track advanced airway placement and timing
* Auto-start CPR timer triggered by the Cardiac Arrest “Start” button

Both apps were developed by Harvard-trained physicians in collaboration with the Heart Association and Massachusetts General Hospital and are regularly updated to reflect the most current guidelines.

Stay prepared and informed by downloading the ACLS and PALS apps today, and ensure you have the latest science at your fingertips.

"We Can’t ‘Suck It Up’ Anymore: Why EMS Needs Proactive Mental Health Counseling" - https://ow.ly/rgzP50Y8gm6

“You don’t want to be the medic everyone whispers about.”

Burnout didn’t suddenly show up with COVID.
But COVID pushed a lot of medics past the point they could keep holding it together.

After the pandemic, more than half of EMS providers reported burnout. Many never asked for help. Not because they were fine, but because they didn’t trust the system to have their back.

🚨 IMPORTANT ALERT: NEW DEA RULES PUBLISHED 🚨

📣 The DEA has finalized updated regulations that reflect current EMS medication practices. These include new registration requirements, more precise storage guidelines, authorized standing orders, and simplified hospital restocking procedures. The new rules will take effect in 30 days.

📝EMS agency leaders and medical directors should review the final rule and begin preparing for compliance before it takes effect!

We’ll continue sharing guidance and resources as this is implemented.
