Here are tips for protecting yourself while outdoors:

Try to stay out of direct sunlight for long periods of time.

Avoid sunburns and sun exposure by using adequate skin protection; use brimmed hats, protective clothing, and sunscreen.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration suggests using sunscreen rated as SPF 30 or higher and has both UVA and UVB protection, also known as “broad spectrum.”

Make sure to apply every 2 hours, and after swimming.

Alcohol use is a significant cause of injury and death from home accidents, drowning, and burns. Additionally, chronic, excessive alcohol consumption is the primary cause of liver cirrhosis in the U.S.

Healthy living involves more than physical health, it also includes emotional or mental health.

The following are some ways in which you can support your mental health and wellbeing:

Get enough sleep daily

Take a walk

Try new things, often

Do some mind exercises (ex. read, do a puzzle occasionally during the week)

Make leisure time to do something that interests you

Learn ways to say “no” when you usually say “yes”

Have fun

Create a strong network of good friends

Seek help early if you feel depressed

People are made to use their bodies, and inactivity may manifest itself in obesity, weakness, lack of endurance, and overall poor health that may foster disease development.

Everyone knows smoking is bad for your health, but sometimes knowing isn’t enough to make you stop.

Set a date for quitting and tell as many people as possible to help hold you accountable for your actions. It's best to pick a day within the next month - a date too far off in the future will give you a chance to procrastinate and postpone, while a time too soon may not allow you to make a plan for medications or support systems.

Notice when and why you smoke. Try to find the things in your daily life that you often do while smoking (such as drinking your morning cup of coffee or driving a car).

Change your smoking routines: Keep your ci******es in a different place — smoke with your other hand.

Take these steps toward a healthier you! If you need extra support, don’t hesitate to reach out.

Getting enough sleep is also a requirement for good health. Sleep reduces stress and improves your mood. It also helps you think more clearly and complete tasks more efficiently.

Do you wish you had better-eating habits? Most of us do!

Here are a few tips on keeping a healthier diet:

1. Eat three meals a day - breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Keep in mind that dinner does not have to be the largest meal, in many cultures the largest meal is consumed in the middle of the day.

2. The bulk of your diet should consist of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and fat-free or low-fat dairy products.

3. Choose lean meats, poultry, fish, beans, eggs, and nuts for your protein.

4. Control portion sizes; eat the smallest portion that can satisfy hunger and then stop eating.

5. Avoid eating a large meal before sleeping to decrease gastroesophageal reflux and weight gain.

6. Avoid rewarding children with sugary snacks.

7. Snacks are okay in moderation and should consist of items like fruit, whole grains, or nuts to satisfy hunger and not cause excessive weight gain.
