About the Cancer Center
The Cancer Center at Gaithersburg provides patients with a full compliment of radiation therapy options. The Cancer Center at Gaithersburg is proud to be the first center in Montgomery County to offer stereotactic radiosurgery on a dedicated linear accelerator. With the Elekta digital linear accelerator available as well, the stereotactic radiosurgery linear accelerator allows patients to receive a full array of external beam radiation treatments in the heart of Montgomery County. Our Process
We understand that being a candidate for radiation therapy has its logistical concerns. The Cancer Center at Gaithersburg is committed to making the process of receiving care as easy as possible – from the first appointment to follow up after receiving treatment. Through personalized plans our process includes the following steps:

CONSULTATION: The first appointment will involve a consultation with the physician. This is usually made within 24 to 48 hours of calling. The consultation involves taking a patient history, reviewing reports and x-rays, as well as a thorough explanation of the treatment that is best suited for the patient. SIMULATION: If the decision is made to proceed with treatments, the patient will be scheduled for a simulation. This is done with our state-of-the-art computuerized tomography (CT) simulators. The images are used to define the patient’s anatomy and identify the tumor or area to be treated and then to create a 3D reconstruction of the body. TREATMENT PLANNING: Once the patient has undergone simulation, the physician and the members of the treatment team review the images along with the patient’s medical tests to develop an optimal treatment plan. RADIATION TREATMENTS: When the patient begins treatments with us, each session is painless and usually takes less than 20 minutes. Because the treatments are five days a week, we make it a priority to accommodate patients scheduling needs. Our Technologies
We offer the most advanced technologies currently available, including:

Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT)
Image-Guided Radiation Therapy (IGRT)
Stereotactic Radiosurgery (SRS)
Brachytherapy
3D Conformal Radiation Therapy

IMRT and IGRT capabilities are available at the Cancer Center at Gaithersburg. These technologies are delivered with the Elekta Synergy® Digital Accelerator. The Elekta allows us to image patients prior to treatment delivery, therefore assuring pinpoint accuracy. SRS capabilities are currently available at the Cancer Center at Gaithersburg. SRS is delivered with the Elekta Synergy S®,The Synergy S® is the newest linear accelerator by Elekta and is designed to provide stereotactic radiosurgery treatments with the most advanced technology available by the pioneers of SRS. The Cancer Center at Gaithersburg is proud to have the newest and only SRS unit of its kind in Montgomery County.
