A client reported yesterday that they traveled all weekend, driving through 6 states for ballgames.

After 5 sessions, less shoulder pain and even after all the driving, their sciatica pain started but never reached the pain level as before!

Life is stressful.

Mentally we justify and rationalize situations.

By doing this we tend to shove feelings down or put them to the back of our mind.

We continue on with life and eventually wonder why we are exhausted, sick, have pain or other symptoms.

That is because your body is still holding on to what we rationalized and shoved down.

This is why taking time to listen to your body is so important in the healing process.

I feel we may have got a few steps backwards.

I believe if we listen to the body first, allow it time and space to truly process stress. Whether it is physical, chemical or emotional. The body will take care of the swirling thoughts and process the real emotions. Preventing the body from storing stress in areas that create the miscommunication leading to pain and illness'.

I believe symptoms and pain are our bodies way to communicate it is overloaded with stress. Those are signals to get our thinking brains to pay attention 😉

I do not believe we are meant to suffer day in and day out! We are meant to live happily with ease in our bodies.

Our nervous systems were not designed for the constant, chronic stress of modern society.

The sympathetic nervous system evolved to protect us in short‑term emergencies—such as escaping danger—and then allow us to return to a parasympathetic state once safety is restored.

When the body remains in a prolonged fight‑or‑flight state, energy is redirected away from healing, digestion, and repair toward survival.

Over time, this sustained activation can lead to pain, fatigue, and other symptoms—not as a failure of the body, but as communication that it no longer feels safe.

The brain responds to perceived threat, whether physical, emotional, or psychological, in much the same way.

Chronic stress can dysregulate nervous system signaling, altering how the brain and body communicate and how pain is processed.

True healing requires a state of safety. When the nervous system feels safe, the body can shift back into rest, repair, and restoration.

When trauma, stress, or overwhelm accumulates — whether from years of overwork, relationships, emotional suppression, or shock — the nervous system builds protection. It learns to hold, to brace, to survive.

That protective energy becomes chronic tension. It becomes “normal.” You forget what ease feels like.

Trying to stretch it out, push it out, or even talk it out often only skims the surface. Because the deeper imprint lives beneath awareness — in your spine, in your nervous system.

What you need is not force. You need a way to tell your body it’s safe to release.

Many healing approaches ask you to do: hold breath, fight pain, exercise, stretch, push. Spinal Flow doesn’t.
