🧑🦯October 15 is White Cane Safety Day, a recognition of the white cane as a symbol of independence and safety. Mobility devices, such as canes, do not define a disability, but rather serve as a communication tool to indicate that extra caution may be necessary. For instance, not all individuals who use white canes are totally blind, as some may retain usable vision. However, the use of a cane alerts cars, pedestrians, and bicyclists to exercise extra caution, as the individual may have limited visibility.🦯
