Quick question: When's the last time you gave your hips and lower back a proper reset? If you're like most people, the answer is "...never?"

Here's a move we use all the time at GOAT that takes 3 minutes and helps unlock tight hips, calm back pain, and fire up your core.

It's called the 90/90 Hip Lift, and it's one of those "looks simple, feels surprisingly powerful" exercises.

Here's how to do it:

~ Lie on your back with your feet flat on a wall, knees and hips bent at 90°
~ Gently lift your hips just an inch or two off the floor — NOT a big bridge
~ Inhale through your nose, expanding your ribcage (not your shoulders)
~ Exhale slowly through your mouth and feel your abs engage
~ Hold for 5 slow breaths. Repeat 3-5 times.

Why it works: This move resets your pelvis position, activates your deep core stabilizers, and gives your hip flexors a much-needed break from sitting all day.

It's a go-to warm-up or cool-down around here because it builds the foundation for stronger, pain-free movement. Try it today and let me know how it feels!

GOAT Physical Therapy and Wellness

After months (maybe years) of careful consideration, I’m excited to own my own physical therapy practice! GOAT Physical Therapy and Wellness LLC was established in March 2019 and offers both physical therapy and fitness services.

I'm a Doctor of Physical Therapy with nearly 15 years of experience in orthopedics, neurologic rehab, vestibular rehab, and geriatrics. I'm also an active member of the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) and a NASM Certified Personal Trainer. In 2018 I founded the Adaptive Fitness program at Waterford Fitness and Training which has been an amazing experience, and a huge success!

The Adaptive Fitness program is intended to allow ANYONE to work toward getting stronger and healthier through “functional fitness”. All humans are adaptive - we have all needed to modify the way we do things at one time of another in our lives. Remember one handed sandwich-making with a sleeping newborn? How about when you had to adapt your stair climbing technique after an ankle sprain? Those are all ADAPTIVE! Adaptive Fitness is the same idea - how can we adapt movements to allow ANYONE to participate - regardless of physical ability? The program is intended to help anyone who would benefit from the expertise and guidance of a PHYSICAL THERAPIST to safely start or return to exercise.

My experience as a physical therapist means that I’m comfortable, confident, and experienced working individuals with health and mobility limitations. It also means that I can be in contact with the “medical” world - including doctors or rehab professionals. I speak the language! Adaptive Fitness fills the gap after discharge from formal physical therapy services and can help individuals continue toward their “quality of life” goals - rather than just the “medically necessary” ones.
