Michael John Steines, 75, of Galesburg, Illinois, died at 6:10 a.m. Sunday, January 25, 2026 at Knox County Nursing Home, Knoxville, Illinois.

Mike was born July 26, 1950 in Davenport, Iowa the son of Loren Arthur and Mary Lou (Norpel) Steines.

Mike was a proud veteran of the Vietnam War, serving honorably in the United States Army from 1970 to 1972. His service reflected a deep sense of duty and commitment to his country during a challenging and historic time. Mike went on to marry Marsha Faye Reynolds on June 30, 1973 in Woodhull, Illinois. Mike is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Marsha of Galesburg; his beloved children Chris (Alissa) Steines of Oswego, Illinois, Michele (Tim) Walgren of Eustis, Florida, Heather (Brad) Hopping of Galesburg , and Shaun (Megan) Steines of Ft. Hood, Texas; his adored grandchildren, Dylan(Emily) Hopping, Ryan (Lauryn) Walgren, Zach Steines, Mitchell Walgren, Matt Steines, Isabella Steines, Logan Hopping, Addison Steines, Oliver Steines, and baby Rosemary Steines due in February; and two great grandchildren, Lillian Walgren and Camryn Hopping. Mike is also survived by his siblings, Rick Steines of Lyles, Tennessee, Sheri (Jim) Hanson of Little York, Illinois, Janet (Joe) Stewart of Alpha, Illinois, Judy Mundy of Silvis, Illinois, Steve (Andrea) Steines of Alpha, and Sharon Hunt Steines of Galesburg. Mike was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, David Steines.

Mike always took pride in working on cars, a passion that expanded during his service as a large equipment mechanic in the U.S. Army. The skills he gained in the military became the foundation for his career, leading him to own and operate Woodhull Plaza Garage in Woodhull, Illinois for many years. After retiring from the garage, Mike went on to work in retail automotive parts management until he retired in 2020. His passion for cars carried outside of his work, he enjoyed building classic cars with his sons, attending car shows, and racing at DuQuoin and Cordova Speedway. Mike’s talents carried well beyond engines. He could fix or repair anything no matter the job. Family always came first. Mike, Marsha, and the kids enjoyed many memorable camping trips throughout the United States. Among his favorite, included a 3-week camping trip to California with 4 kids in a station wagon pulling the camper. Mike loved being Grandpa and Great Grandpa to his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Cremation will be accorded. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Private burial will at Alpha Cemetery, Alpha, Illinois. On January 26, 2026, Charles D. Rakers of Burns Harbor, Indiana, passed away with his family by his side at Franciscan Health in Michigan City, Indiana.

Charlie was preceded in death by his parents, Charles M. and Helen Doran Rakers, and one brother, Timothy Rakers. He is survived by his wife of fifty years, Debra Rakers, daughter Kelsey Rakers (Jeffrey Wenzel) of Valparaiso, son Casey Rakers of Burns Harbor, and three grandchildren, Rupert, Harrison, and Zoe Wenzel. He is also survived by his brother Wayne (Bette) Rakers of Peoria, Illinois and sister Deb Rakers (Mark Reopelle) of Eugene, Oregon.

Charlie was born on November 7, 1950 in Quincy, Illinois. He was a 1968 graduate of Costa High School in Galesburg and an Eagle Scout. Charlie was a proud veteran of the United States Navy, having served on the U.S.S Detroit. He earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in education from Western Illinois University. On August 16, 1975, he married Debra McManis in Watseka, Illinois. He spent his career as a teacher, coach, and administrator, with the last twenty years of his career as principal at Marian Central Catholic High School in Woodstock, Illinois. In his retirement, he was a proud Papa to his grandkids. Charlie was a lifelong sports fan, especially of the Atlanta Braves, Chicago Blackhawks, and Chicago Bears. He also loved traveling, history, music, and movies.

Visitation will be 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 30, 2026 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Galesburg. The rosary will be prayed at 11:00 a.m. with funeral mass to start at 11:30 a.m. Father Jeffrey Stirniman will officiate. Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery, Galesburg. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in memory of Chuck Rakers to Marian Central Catholic High School for tuition assistance. Robert L. “Bobby” St. George, 83, of Galesburg, Illinois, died unexpectedly at home on Monday, January 26, 2026.

Bobby was born June 11, 1942, in Galesburg, the son of Richard L. and Elizabeth “Petie” V. (Harrison) St. George. He worked for Gunther Construction in Galesburg for over 20 years prior to retiring.

Bob proudly served in the United States Army with the 82nd Airborne from June 26, 1961, until he was honorably discharged on June 24, 1964.

Bobby married Rose Mary Smith on June 18, 1998, in East Galesburg, Illinois. She survives, along with his sons: Van (Kathy) Shipley of Galesburg, Chad (Dena) St. George of Galesburg, Mike (Cindy) Trione of Oconomowoc, Wisconsin, and Terry (Jennifer) Hillman of Kansas City, Missouri; one brother, Artie (Sandy) St. George of Galesburg; one sister, Ginny Roberts of Galesburg; and several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his beloved grandchildren: Jake Shipley, Emma St. George, Joe (Arjay) Trione, Jake (Leslie) Trione, Michaela Trione, Lauryn Hillman, Jack Hillman, Nicholas Hillman, Carson Hopping, Avery Turner, and Lou Turner. Bobby was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Missy McNamee and Dixie Quinn.

Bobby was a die-hard Chicago Cubs and Bears fan. He loved playing golf, spending time with his family, and being with his German Shepherds. He could often be found at Duffy’s having a drink and sitting at the gaming machines. Bobby will be long remembered for his quick wit and great sense of humor.

Visitation will be from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Friday, January 30, 2026, at Watson Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory, Galesburg. Rita Marie (nee Richmond) Crockett, 68, of Galesburg, died peacefully at home with her daughter by her side on Thursday, January 22, 2026 at 8:16 p.m.

Rita was born April 16, 1957 in Waco, Texas. Rita married her partner of 20 years, Roger W. Crockett on November 1, 2003 in Chicago, Illinois. He preceded her in death on August 31, 2005.

Rita is survived one daughter, Candy M. Richmond of Carol Stream, Illinois; three grandchildren, Gianna, Valentino, and Xavier; and one sister, Rhonda Keith of Galesburg. Along with her parents and husband, Rita was preceded in death by one son and two brothers.

Rita had a strong faith in God and was a member of Covenant Church in Galesburg. Rita loved her family and will be missed by all who knew and loved her. Rita was an animal lover, especially her cats.

Dottie was born January 15, 1969 in Knox County, the daughter of Gary Lee and Sharon E. (Roberts) Denniston. Dottie is survived by her Husband of over 20 years, Rodney Ray White, whom she married on May 26, 2012. Dottie became a mother to Rodney’s three children the day they were married, Tanner (Jessica Havelock) White of Wataga, Illinois, Megan (Cody Brechbuhler) Burns of Galesburg, and Jadin White of Wataga. Dottie is also survived by her mother, Sharon Kinzer of Galesburg; her two beloved granddaughters, Lorenza Burns, and Taylir Trulson, and grandson, Jace Line; as well as two brothers, Duane (Donna) Denniston of St. Petersburg Beach, Florida and Eric (Candi) Denniston of Galesburg; and one sister, Hydee Denniston. Dottie is preceded in death by her father; her mother and father-in-law, Karen and Marvin White; and her godmother, Dottie Lee Selfridge.

In her early years Dottie lived in Victoria. She worked in healthcare for most of her life as a CNA and Rehabilitation Aide. This was her life mission and what she was born to do. Dottie was an amazing caregiver and loved by so many. Dottie loved to be outdoors gardening, spending time at the beach by the ocean, as well as spending time at the river.

Karen Kay Tasker, 79, of East Galesburg, Illinois, died at 2:31 p.m. Tuesday, January 20, 2026 at OSF St. Mary Medical Center, Galesburg, surrounded by her loving family.

Karen was born November 20, 1946 in Galesburg, Illinois, the daughter of Frank and Mildred Fern “Millie” (Effland) Metelka. She graduated from Spoon River Valley High School and went on to earn a bachelor’s in business education from Western Illinois University. Karen was united in married to Robert Eugene Tasker at the First Lutheran Church on June 24, 1972 in Galesburg. Bob preceded Karen in death on November 13, 2018.

Karen is survived by her children, Amy (Ed) Ponce of Normal, Illinois and Garrett (Erin) Tasker of Cuba, Illinois; and her five beloved grandsons, Andrew, Benjamin, and Matthew Ponce, and Paxton and Maverick Tasker. Karen is also survived by one sister, Marla J. Dade of Galesburg; and her good friend who was like a sister, Donna (Terry) Wignall of Mapleton, Illinois.

Karen taught high school for many years, starting in Galesburg, later working in Abingdon, and retired from Valley High School in 2006. Over the years, Karen also taught the GED Program at Carl Sandburg College. Growing up going to church, Karen remained faithful throughout her life. Karen loved her family deeply and enjoyed spending holidays with them. Whenever possible Karen could be found supporting her children’s and later her grandson’s activities.

Visitation will be 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, March 14, 2026 at Watson Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory, Galesburg. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home, Deacon Michael Crummer will officiate. Burial will follow at East Midway Cemetery, London Mills, Illinois. Richard Alan Taylor, 68, of Maquon, Illinois, died at 7:04 p.m. Tuesday, January 20, 2026 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center, Peoria, Illinois.

Richard was born October 8, 1957 in Canton, Illinois, the son of Richard J. and Barbara E. (Bump) Taylor. Richard graduated from Galesburg High School in 1975 and went on to work at Galesburg Glass, completing an apprenticeship, becoming a certified glazer. He went on to work many years for his union, Painters District #30 and #581, retiring in 2012. Throughout his career, Richard also worked alongside his family on the family farm.

Richard married Kimberly Jean Hensley on September 23, 1989 at Coldbrook Christian Church, Cameron, Illinois. Richard is survived by his wife, Kimberly of Maquon; two sons, Adam Hensley and Colton (Lydia Griffith) Taylor both of Galesburg; and ten grandchildren. Richard is also survived by one brother, James Taylor of Rockford, Illinois; and four sisters, Linda Kidder and Debora (Duane) Swisher both of Galesburg, Julia Williams of Maquon, and Michelle (Charles) Mann of Chicago, Illinois. Along with his parents, Richard was preceded in death by one son, Shawn Hensley; and one sister, Laura Sue Taylor.

Richard served many years on the London Mills Volunteer Fire Department. He was an avid Minnesota Vikings fan, enjoyed listening to live music, and collected LP records. Richard was proud of the antique tractor he restored alongside his brother. But more than anything, Richard loved spoiling his grandchildren as often as he could.

Cremation wil be accorded. A celebration of life will be Saturday, February 7, 2026 at the Thomas Legacy Center at Watson Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory, Galesburg, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. The family asks memorial contributions be directed to the London Mills Volunteer Fire Department or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Alan Leslie “Butch” Fones, 81, of Galesburg, Illinois, was called home and passed peacefully surrounded by his immediate family on January 20, 2026 at 4:42 p.m.

Alan was born July 6, 1944 in Galesburg, the son of Albert George and Maxine Ione (Levene) Fones. Alan served in the US Army from April 1, 1968 until he was honorably discharged on March 31, 1970. He married Candice Williams on July 15, 1973 in Galva, Illinois. Butch is survived by his wife, Candy of Galesburg; one daughter, Nicole (Tony) Ommen of Bolingbrook, Illinois; and three grandchildren; Logan, Ashley, and Emily. Alan is also survived by two brothers, Brian (Susan) Fones of Colona, Illinois and Albert Fones of Glen Ellyn, Illinois; and two sisters, Jill (Ross) Sandercock of Naperville, Illinois and Joy (John) Kobialka of Middletown, New Jersey. Along with his parents, Alan was preceded in death by one brother, Dennis Fones.

Alan worked for several years at OMC Gale Products until its closure. He then turned his talents to auto body repair and automobile painting. He loved to ride motorcycles and competed in dirt bike racing for several years. Being mechanically inclined, Alan’s hobbies included working on motorcycles and repairing cars. He also enjoyed bowling and playing billiards.

Cremation will be accorded. A private family burial of cremated remains will be at Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens, Galesburg. Cynthia “Cindy” Marie Allen, 72, of Galesburg, Illinois, died at 8:23 p.m. Wednesday, January 21, 2026 at OSF Richard Owens Hospice Home, Peoria, Illinois, surrounded by her children.

Cindy was born October 28, 1953 in Clinton, Iowa, the daughter of, Robert M. and M. Monica (Leonard) Southwell. Cindy graduated from Galesburg High School in 1971 and from Nursing School in 1981. Cindy worked for 20 years at Galesburg Cottage Hospital in pediatrics. She spent her last years in home health as a pediatric nurse, retiring in 2014.

Cindy married Danny L. Allen on June 13, 1970. She is survived by her four children, daughter, Melissa (Mark) Serio of Kennewick, Washington; three sons, Danny L. Allen, Jr. of Sunrise Beach, Missouri, Rusty (Tonya) Allen of Galesburg, and Jeff (Brittney) Allen of Knoxville, Illinois; and one brother, Robert J. Southwell of Greybull, Wyoming. Cindy is also survived by her pride and joy, 9 grandchildren, Jacob Allen, Giavanna D’Agati Allen, Benjamin Serio, Claire Serio, Kaylee Allen, Madison Allen, Ella Allen, Jett Allen, and Ruby Allen. Along with her parents, Cindy was preceded in death by two brothers, Dennis Southwell and Thomas Southwell.

Aside from being a dedicated nurse, family always came first for Cindy. She could always be found in the stands cheering on her children and later grandchildren’s sporting events, or supporting every activity they were involved in. Cindy was a natural caregiver and had the kindest heart and would do anything for anyone. She loved to cook and bake, always making sure everyone she loved got their special birthday cake or pie. She was a longtime member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church, was a member of the Altar and Rosary Society, and enjoyed attending Bible Study. She enjoyed life to the fullest, whether it was listening to music, dancing, or going out with friends, Cindy was up for a good time. At home, Cindy like to watch television and movies, play cards, and be with her pets. An avid collector, Cindy enjoyed shopping and collecting many different knick-knacks.

Visitation will be 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Monday, January 26, 2026 at Watson Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory, Galesburg. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 a.m. with Deacon Robert Wood officiating. Burial will be at Henderson Cemetery, Henderson, Illinois.
