Important update on SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) and how it affects people in our community and state:

Following a court order on Nov. 3, the federal government will fund only half of SNAP benefits in November. The federal government’s decision to fund reduced benefits will make it significantly more complicated for states to issue the funds, which will delay November SNAP benefits to households by days or weeks. Benefits left on cards from previous months can still be used, but new benefits will be less than in prior months and will be delayed by the federal government.

IDHS is exploring how payments will work in Illinois and will keep customers updated on this evolving situation.

In the interim, we are encouraging people who rely on SNAP for groceries to visit their local food pantries. We are asking for assistance from people in our communities who are able to contribute to their local pantries. Monetary donations to JCC will be used to purchase food from River Bend Food Bank at a discounted rate. If you would rather purchase items at one of our local stores, we gladly accept unopened, non-expired food items in their original packaging for our food pantry. Most-needed items include canned vegetables (except corn and green beans), fruits, canned meats, soups, beans, cereal, rice, and pasta. We also welcome donations of cleaning supplies, soap, and shampoo.

Donations can be dropped off at either location:
Monmouth Resource Center – 1120A S. Main St., Monmouth
Monday–Friday, 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM

Jamieson Community Center Office – 1025 S. 2nd St., Monmouth
Monday–Friday, 8:30 AM – 3:30 PM

With the communities help, we will get people through this!
