A two layer laser cladding operation was performed on a ball valve using STELLOY 21 LD, developed by Meltio in collaboration with Welding Alloys.
The goal was to achieve a dense and uniform coating with high hardness and low dilution. The result is superior wear and corrosion resistance for demanding oil and gas environments.

🔧✈️ Additive Manufacturing of an Aerospace Mold in INVAR with DED WLAM Technology

CATEC & Meltio have successfully manufactured an aerospace mold in INVAR alloy using Meltio’s wire based Directed Energy Deposition (DED WLAM) technology.

This achievement is part of the MADISON project, focused on Additive Manufacturing, Digitization and Sustainability, funded under the 2023 CDTI Cervera Program for technological innovation centers. It marks a major step forward for the aerospace sector by combining advanced manufacturing strategies, design optimization for weight reduction and more efficient material use to reduce production times.

Thanks to its low coefficient of thermal expansion, INVAR is the perfect material for molds used in composite components where dimensional stability is essential.

For this development, Meltio collaborated with CATEC to continue expanding the possibilities of metal additive manufacturing for aerospace applications.
