Meet Wendi Hook, a dedicated X-ray and Mammography Technologist at OSF HealthCare St. Mary Medical Center ๐
Wendiโs OSF journey is truly remarkable. She began her career at SMMC in 1988 as her very first job after graduation, returned in 2001, and will celebrate 24 years back at St. Mary this February. Along the way, she has also served as a CT Technologist and CSC Clinical Coordinator for students, helping shape the next generation of caregivers. Altogether, Wendi has been part of the OSF family since 1988.
๐ Favorite part of her job:
"My favorite part of my job is and always has been my patients. Caring for people in their most vulnerable moments is a wonderful gift and responsibility. My cup gets filled by helping others which is why healthcare has always been the perfect fit for me. Working with students is a close second. Instilling the same strong skills and focus on patient care to future techs that I was given is important to me."
๐ What serving with the greatest care and love means to Wendi:
"For me, serving with the greatest care and love is intuitive. "Why are we here" is the heart of care. I am here to help people in their time of need. They're hurt, they're vulnerable, and they're often afraid and confused. The healthcare system has changed greatly over the years. Patients need to feel confident caregivers haven't changed and their care hasn't changed. I strive to always leave every patient feeling my love of them as human beings, not just an exam, an illness, or whatever brought them to us.
In my role with physicians, fellow mission partners, patients, and their families, the four most important words are "How can I help"? That is part of serving patients also, having us all be in it together. In my experience, saying and feeling that with sincerity has worked for me. Working well together is also a huge part of patient care and serving with love. "
โจ Fun Facts about Wendi:
All three of her daughters work in healthcare for OSF, carrying on the same heart for caring for others ๐
She has attended several silent meditation retreats in Rockford, one lasting 10 days!
Thank you, Wendi, for your decades of service, your heart for patients, and your commitment to serving with the greatest care and love. You are a true example of what it means to be an OSF Mission Partner. ๐
