Good Morning Mama's! Some of you may know that August is National Breastfeeding Awareness Month- and the first week of August (aug 1-7) is World Breastfeeding Week. Thats NEXT WEEK. Boy how summer is flying by! This years motto is "Protect Breastfeeding-A Shared Responsibility" We all play a vital role in promoting the importance of breastfeeding. As mothers, one of the best things we can do is support other moms, and as breastfeeding mothers, we know that support is so important in the success of breastfeeding. Reach out to someone you know who is breastfeeding or pregnant and see how they're doing and if they have any questions or concerns. You never know who you may help!

Every year the health department in St Joe hosts activities for Breastfeeding week. This year the list is much smaller than in the past but they are still hosting two activities you're welcome to join.

The first few weeks it can seem as though you're breastfeeding all. the. time. Often times mamas worry they aren't making enough because baby is always wanting to nurse. Remember to track weight gain and diaper output and if both of those are good you're on the right track. Babies breastfeed for lots of reasons other than hunger; it gives them a sense of calm and comfort along with many other things. Keep on keeping on mama, you've got this and you're doing great!

Hey mama's I hope you're all having a wonderful week! I often hear mama's say how babe is breastfeeding so much more often and they feel like they aren't making enough, but upon some discussing we figure out babe is most likely going through a growth spurt. Growth spurts happen often the first few months of babes life which can cause you to feel like you're constantly nursing which in turn can make you feel like you're not making enough milk for your baby. Don't worry mama, this feeling is totally normal as are the increased feedings during growth spurts. Chances are you ARE making enough milk, and the more you latch your babe and let them nurse, the more milk your body will produce. As always, monitor babes weight gain and diaper output to ensure babe is getting enough milk. Here's a a helpful informational graphic on growth spurts.

Hey guys! I just wanted to take a moment to introduce myself and say welcome!
My name is Caitlin Roberts and I've been working as the breastfeeding peer counselor here at the Daviess County Health Department for 3 years now and I love it!

I've been married to my best friend since 2013 and we have 3 amazing kiddos who are 5,3 and 1 and I have breastfed them all and still currently breastfeeding the youngest. I've been breastfeeding for almost 6 years now so I don't know what I will do with myself when that chapter of my life is over! With that, I know that it's not always easy. We've had our fair share of struggles each time, but I won't get into that right now because we could be here all day ;) I just wanted to point out that I know it's not always easy and that's why I'm here! I hope this page can help encourage you and support you, and let you know that you can always reach out to me if you have any questions or concerns regarding breastfeeding.
