❤️ February is American Heart Month! ❤️
Friday, February 6 is Wear Red Day!

Heart disease is the leading cause of death in the U.S. for both men and women — but the good news is that many risk factors are preventable! 💪🫀 Wearing red is a simple way to raise awareness and start important conversations about heart health in our community.

The Daviess County Health Department encourages everyone to protect their heart by:
🥗 Eating a heart-healthy diet
🚶‍♀️ Staying physically active
🚭 Avoiding to***co use
🩺 Knowing your numbers (blood pressure, cholesterol, blood sugar)
💊 Managing conditions like high blood pressure and diabetes

❤️ Small changes can make a BIG difference!
📸 Wear red on Friday, share the message, and help spread awareness all month long!

🌱 Why routine childhood vaccines matter — even when families have choices

Recent changes to vaccine recommendations mean some childhood vaccines are no longer “routine” for everyone. While families still have access, there’s an important risk worth understanding:

🛡️ When vaccines stop being the default, fewer children get protected.

This matters because:
• Some kids can’t be vaccinated (infants, kids with cancer or immune conditions)
• Vaccines protect communities, not just individuals
• Lower vaccination rates can allow preventable diseases to return quietly — then spread fast

We’ve seen this before with illnesses like measles, flu, and whooping cough.

👶 The children most affected are often:
• The youngest
• Those with chronic illness
• Families with limited access to healthcare or time for long medical visits

Clear, routine guidance helps keep protection simple, equitable, and automatic — especially for busy families doing their best.

💬 Vaccines are still available. Conversations with healthcare providers still matter and our health department is here to help.

Protecting children works best when we work together. 💙

📌 Have you or someone you know ever used programs like SNAP, WIC, Parents as Teachers, Bright Futures, SB 40, Green Hills Community Action Agency or other local resources?

‼️ We’re working on an Upstream Action Plan for Circuit 43 (Caldwell, Clinton, Daviess, DeKalb, and Livingston Counties) and are looking for community members who are willing to share how local programs helped them or their family.

❤️ Your story can help others learn about available resources and show that it’s okay to ask for help. Our goal is to raise awareness of local resources and help remove the stigma around asking for help.

🩺 It’s Not Too Late to Get Your Flu Shot! 🩺

Flu season is here, and while early fall is ideal for vaccination, it’s not too late to protect yourself and your loved ones! Flu activity often peaks between December and February and can continue into spring, meaning there’s still time to benefit from a flu shot now.

Why this matters:
• Influenza can cause millions of illnesses, hundreds of thousands of hospitalizations, and tens of thousands of deaths in a typical season.
• A flu vaccine significantly reduces your risk of getting sick, being hospitalized, and dying from flu.

• It takes about 2 weeks after vaccination for your body to build protection — so the sooner you get it, the better!

💉 Who should get vaccinated?
Everyone 6 months and older, especially:
• Pregnant women
• Adults 65+
• People with chronic health conditions
• Those around infants or high-risk individuals

👉 Call us today or drop in — it’s still worth getting your flu shot!
