Fact: Addiction changes the brain.
Drugs and alcohol overstimulate the brain’s reward system, flooding it with dopamine, the chemical that signals pleasure, motivation, and reward.

Over time, the brain adjusts by reducing dopamine receptors. That means normal joys like food, family, or success no longer feel satisfying. The brain begins to crave the substance just to feel normal.
