Organ transplantation at UTMB’s Texas Transplant Center has a long tradition of excellence. We can be reached at 409-772-4714 or 800-323-4109

Transplantation was started at UTMB more than 40 years ago, it has been a pioneering force in the field since then with over 3,000 patients transplanted. Our Medicare-approved organ transplantation programs include Kidney (including living donors), and Heart. We also offer ventricular assist devices (VAD) placement as a bridge to heart transplantation or destination therapy. Our transplant Center is in a different organ bank than the metropolitan Houston area. Patients on the waiting list in the metropolitan Houston transplant programs can benefit from multiple listings in our Center. Multiple listing with our Transplant Center allows patients on the waiting list in Houston to double their chance to receive an organ only a short drive away. To reduce commutes and enhance and simplify access to care for our patients, our outpatient care is offered from several transplant clinics conveniently located throughout South Texas and in the League City area near Interstate 45 South.

UTMB Health will celebrate the Thanksgiving holiday on Thursday, Nov. 27 and Friday, Nov. 28. Schools, business areas and administrative offices will be closed to allow our staff and students to spend time with their families.

UTMB's hospitals and ERs on the Angleton Danbury, Clear Lake, Galveston and League City campuses are always open. The University of Texas Medical Branch will celebrate Labor Day on Monday, September 1, 2025. UTMB Health schools, business areas, administrative offices, and most of UTMB’s clinics will close in honor of the holiday.

All UTMB Health urgent care clinics will be open noon-6 p.m. In addition to walk-in care, the urgent care clinics offer online scheduling.

On her 16th birthday, Taylor wasn't thinking about gifts or a party — she had her mind set on donating blood.

Inspired by her parents’ commitment to donating platelets in honor of her uncle’s battle with leukemia, Taylor knew that blood donation was exactly how she wanted to celebrate turning 16. She made her first blood donation, side by side with her mom and dad. Together, they donated whole blood, two triple platelets, and plasma — all in one evening.

"Giving blood is something that I will continue doing and is something my family will cherish forever," Taylor said.

As we continue meeting with several social workers, our next stop is Harlingen, Texas.

Patient brought their questions, and we had the opportunity to clarify a few things about kidney transplant care and give an in-depth look at our living donor program.

Dialysis treatment keeps you strong while you undergo various medical tests for a kidney transplant. Once you receive the Gift of Life, you no longer need dialysis treatment but still need to take good care of yourself to make sure there are no medical issues and do the things you couldn’t do in the past without any significant restrictions.

Thank you, U.S. Renal Care in Harlingen, for allowing Texas Transplant Center to provide details of our kidney transplant program. Patients have options and benefits to multi-list.
