SoHum Health - Jerold Phelps Community Hospital This service area has a population of about 10,365 full-time residents that can grow to over 30,000 during summer months.

SoHum Health is a California Special Healthcare District that operates Jerold Phelps Community Hospital, Southern Humboldt Community Clinic, Southern Humboldt Family Resource Center, Garberville Pharmacy, Fortuna Optometry, and Garberville Optometry. Dating back to 1949, healthcare services have been available at the current site of the Southern Humboldt Community Healthcare District (SHCHD) in Garberville, California. SHCHD currently includes Jerold Phelps Community Hospital with its attached skilled nursing unit; Southern Humboldt Community Clinic, a certified rural health clinic; Southern Humboldt Family Resource Center at Redway Elementary; and Garberville Pharmacy, a full-service retail pharmacy located at 286 Sprowel Creek Road. Our service area is approximately 775 square miles and includes the communities of Alderpoint, Blocksburg, Garberville, Harris, Honeydew, Miranda, Meyers Flat, Leggett, Petrolia, Phillipsville, Piercy, Redcrest, Redway, Shelter Cover, Weott, Whitethorn, and Zenia. With strong community support, including a supplemental property tax, SHCHD continues its work to assure quality healthcare for residents and visitors alike. The hospital received Critical Access Hospital (CAH) designation status in March 2002, helping position SHCHD for a more sustainable future. Direct services include an acute care hospital, 24/7 emergency room, laboratory, radiology, physical therapy, occupational therapy, mammography, x-ray, home health/visiting nurse program, swing-bed, visiting specialists, skilled nursing, a rural health clinic, the Family Resource Center, and retail pharmacy services.
