๐๐ฝโโ๏ธ Curious how to support your young childโs language development this summer?
โญ๏ธ Play is the way children learn!
For young children, play with others is one of the most effective ways to learn new concepts and build vocabulary.
๐งธ Follow their lead and join the fun!
While playing, you might feel tempted to direct or teachโbut letting your child lead keeps them engaged and ready to learn.Try these tips:
โ Copy what your child is doing
โ Expand on their words without expecting a response
โ Add fun sound effects like bang, smash, and boom
โ Sing songs and let them fill in the words
๐งญ Let them explore, get messy, and try new things!
Children thrive when theyโre having fun and fully engaged. You can:
โ Play outside with water, grass, or sticks
โ Take photos of flowers, animals, or plants and talk about them
โ Explore textures, smells, temperatures, colors, and shapes
โ Involve them in bath time, cooking, or washing dishes
๐ Instead of asking questions, talk more!
Many kids feel overwhelmed by constant questions. Instead of quizzing, try expanding on what they say:
โ Child: โBallโ โ You: โI want the ball!โ
โ Child: โSwingโ โ You: โMommy push me! Swing more!โ
โ Child: โEatโ โ You: โIโm hungry! Letโs eat a snack.โ
Even if they donโt respond, theyโre still learning from hearing their idea expanded!
