Those of us at Front Line Services understand that the holidays can be stressful and full of anxiety for some, so we want to offer a few tips for both adults and youth to help ensure the holidays can be enjoyed by all.
For those who find thoughts of stress and anxiety overwhelming this time of year, we would also like to offer some key community resources that may be able to help.
For adults:
– Practice self-care and keep self care routines: This can be going to the gym, meditating, going for a nature walk, or sipping a cup of cocoa with a warm blanket and a book.
– Remember to practice strong boundary setting: Control who you spend time with, where you go, and how much time you spend
– Have grace and forgiveness for ourselves: If we indulge in treats or get upset or feel a bit off, that’s okay. Take a moment to practice grace, whether it's telling yourself that it's okay, envisioning giving yourself a hug, or just taking a moment to reset.
For youth:
– Talk to friends and family who really get you. Make plans to spend time with them being yourself and having fun.
– Plan for breaks when and where you need. Use fidgets, find a quiet spot, try a code word you can use to let your family know you need a break.
– Give a gift. Give someone a genuine compliment, help someone, or make a gift, and give it to someone. Helping someone else feel good can help you feel good too.
