Douglas Center for Hope and Healing A compassionate space for grief & healing. Programs for Children, Teens, & Families
(1)

After a death, grieving children and teens must make their way in a world marked by intense sadness, loneliness, and emptiness. Eventually, feelings of loss including anger, guilt, resentment, fear, social withdrawal and depression may surface in unhealthy, unresolved ways in weeks, months, and even years following a death. The Douglas Center for Hope and Healing will give children and their families many opportunities for sharing and self expression in healthy, positive ways.

Suicide-Overdose Grief Support Group offered by Alisha Bonk at Miller Counseling

Miller Counseling is adding a free su***de and overdose grief support group to the list of services that are offered at their agency. The group is starting Tuesday February 17, 2026, and is named Healing Together. Healing Together is a place that offers safe compassionate support after loss due to su***de or overdose. The group will be offered every Tuesday from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at 104 W Telegraph Street in Carson City, Nevada. The group will be led by a volunteer, Alisha Bonk. Alisha lost her son, Matthew, to su***de four years ago on Christmas day. Alisha was devastated by the loss of her son. She found that not only was she devastated, but Matthew’s entire family, girlfriend, best friend, classmates, teachers and acquaintances were greatly impacted by the sudden loss. The idea that one event could impact so many was an eye opener. She found no one was prepared to talk about su***de; no one knew how to make sense of it and she was feeling lost. Alisha joined the grief support group at Miller Counseling and became a strong member of the group. She found that speaking to others that understood her loss and all that came with it helped her feel solace, connection and healing. Alisha states, “I decided that I wanted to help others find some peace like I did. It is in my heart to show those who have experienced terrible loss that life will get better in time. There is peace to be found in sharing our profound pain with one another in a safe and confidential space. Please come join us.”
Miller Counseling is blessed to have Alisha Bonk become part of our team and we will continue to provide the original grief support group every Wednesday from 7-8:30 p.m. which is available in both Spanish and English, in addition to the new su***de and overdose specific grief group every Tuesday from 5:30-7 p.m. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Eddie Miller at Miller Counseling 775-434-7200.
