Benedictine Living Community-Garrison

Benedictine Living Community-Garrison Benedictine Living Community-Garrison is a senior living community with a health care continuum.

Benedictine Living Community-Garrison was built in 1969 to support the local elderly population’s desire to stay in their beloved town when they could no longer live on their own. Now 45 years later, we are proud to say that we are still serving the community and providing a place in which our family and friends from Garrison and the surrounding area are able to call home. The Meadows was made possible with donations from generous members of our community and a matching amount from Benedictine Health System. Our doors opened in 2009, furthering our commitment to our local elderly by providing assisted living options for those who aren’t able to stay in their homes, but not ready for skilled care.

We’re excited to share some news here at Benedictine Living Community-Garrison! We’ve partnered with Patriot Angels to help our veteran residents and their spouses access the VA Aid and Attendance benefits they’ve earned.

These benefits can provide crucial financial help for assisted living and personal care. But the application process can be confusing, so Patriot Angels is stepping in to walk families through the claim process step-by-step.

This partnership is more than paperwork — it’s about honoring the lives and legacies of those who served.

This month we are highlighting staff member Johmar Saura. Johmar has been a CNA here at Benedictine Garrison for nearly 4 1/2 years. His kind and caring nature make him a great addition to our family. Here's what Johmar would like to share about himself:
***********************************************************************
Hello, my name is Johmar Saura. I would like to be know as a jolly and positive person, strict dad but not most of the time, and a faithful husband! I grew up in Philippines and went to school at Pangasinan Merchant Marine Academy. I have three brothers and one sister. I am married to Imelda R. Frias and we have a daughter Margarette Saura (11 yo) and a son, Elijah Mateo Saura (1yr and 11 months old). My favorite memory of my family is when we migrated here to America and started traveling together to all of the beautiful places that we just only saw in Movies. My hobbies I enjoy are having some quality time with my family, playing and watching movies together and playing basketball. My pets were originally my daughters’ pets but I am the one taking care of them, goldfish and a dog. I currently am employed at BLCG as a Certified Nursing Assistant. Foods I really enjoy are homemade food like Asian Food, Filipino food like adobo, lumpia, and spaghetti. I do love all genre of music, but I love Acoustic the most. I like basketball, boxing, and MMX. My all-time favorite movies are “Top Gun”, “Die Hard”, and “Face Off”. My favorite TV shows include “American Idol”, “the Voice”, and “Young Sheldon”. I am not a bookworm, but mechanic books will do. I enjoy listening to the Country Song radio station. I am a member of the Catholic Church. A special memory I would like to share is the time when Covid 19 hit all around the world. That is when we were about to schedule to fly to America. Every airport was starting to shut down. And we were so worried that we would not make it, but God didn’t let that happen. I am most proud of what we achieved with my better half Imelda, through all the ups and downs that we went through, but through it all we are living now our American dream. Something few people know about me but would be surprised to discover is I am a really bad dancer, I put ketchup on my pizzas. I also enjoy trying to eat exotic food. If I could have a wish granted it would be to just make myself and family safe all the time and be healthy.

Are you interested in participating in a Family Council? At Benedictine Garrison we encourage loved ones of our neighbors to join together to support one another. Having a loved one in long term care can be a challenge. Loved ones and Guardians are tasked with making "the right" decisions on behalf of their relatives. Working together with other family members and/or facility staff to make these decisions can be a daunting task. If you are interested in being supported and supporting others who are facing many of the same challenges as you are, reach out and let's get this Family Council rolling! Contact Karlene Holte by phone at 701-463-2226, via email at karlene.holte@benedictineliving.org, or reply to this post to let us know you're interested in this opportunity or to ask any questions you may have. Let's support one another! 🫂❤️

On this Feast of Epiphany, we remember the Magi’s journey—a path of faith, hope and openness to God’s light. Their search reminds us that Christ reveals Himself to all who seek Him with sincere hearts. May God’s light guide us to unity and peace.
