🩺Community HealthNet Health Centers care for thousands of patients in Gary, Merrillville, Hammond, East Chicago and surrounding cities, offering high-quality, affordable care to everyone, regardless of insurance or ability to pay.

Across the U.S., Community Health Centers care for 52 million people including rural families, working households, and those without insurance while representing only 1% of healthcare spending.

⚠️ Federal funding that supports Community Health Centers is set to expire on **January 30, 2026**. Without action, access to care for millions, including our neighbors could be at risk.

As Community Health Centers (CHCs) mark 60 years of saving lives and dollars, they need your help. Federal funding that keeps CHCs open expires January 30, 2026. Without action from Congress, patient access is at risk.

CHCs now care for more patients than ever before, serving 52 million people across 17,000 locations nationwide. They include:

✅ Over 10 million rural residents (1 in 3)

✅ More than 20 million people who live in poverty (1 in 3)

✅ More than 6 million uninsured people (1 in 5)

CHCs serve 1 in 7 Americans, yet account for only 1% of total U.S. healthcare spending, saving Medicaid and Medicare billions of dollars annually by reducing costly emergency, inpatient, and specialty care.

America needs Community Health Centers. Together, we must ensure that every Community Health Center can continue delivering high-quality, affordable care that saves lives.

Black mothers should NOT die from childbirth.

Yet in the United States, Black women are three times more likely to die from a pregnancy-related cause than white women, according to the Black Mamas Matter Alliance.

This devastating reality is underscored by the tragic passing of Dr. Janell Green Smith, a midwife, scholar, and fierce advocate for Black maternal health, who died from childbirth complications while delivering her first child at just 31 years old.

Known as the “Loc’d Midwife,” Dr. Smith dedicated her life to ensuring Black women received respectful, evidence-based, and equitable maternal care. Her loss is a painful reminder that even experts and advocates are not protected from the failures of our healthcare system.

We extend our deepest condolences to Dr. Smith’s family and loved ones. May her legacy compel urgent action to end racial inequities in maternal health and ensure that Black mamas everywhere are seen, heard, and protected.
