Weekly Mental Health Tip: Focus on What You Can Control

Stress often comes from trying to manage things outside of our control. Redirecting your energy toward what is within your reach - like your routine, your mindset, and your support system - can help reduce overwhelm.

Not everything is yours to carry. Start with what is.

World Bipolar Day, observed each year on March 30, is dedicated to increasing awareness, reducing stigma, and improving understanding of bipolar disorder. The date was chosen to honor Vincent van Gogh's birthday, whose life and work are often discussed in relation to mental health and creativity.

This day serves as a reminder that bipolar disorder affects millions of people worldwide—and that with proper care, individuals can live stable, meaningful, and fulfilling lives.

Cooper's Weekly Mental Health Tip: Engage in Random Acts of Kindness

-Kindness boosts your mood by increasing feel-good chemicals like dopamine and serotonin
-Small actions can create a ripple effect—you help others and yourself
-It shifts your focus outward, which can reduce stress and overthinking
-Builds a sense of connection and community, even in brief interactions
-Reminds you that you have the power to make a positive impact
-Can improve self-worth and purpose, especially during tough seasons
-Doesn’t have to be big—simple, intentional moments matter most

Easy ideas to try:
-Send a quick “thinking of you” text
-Compliment someone (and mean it)
-Pay for someone’s coffee
-Leave a positive review for a local business
-Hold the door, smile, or say thank you

Each March, Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month highlights the importance of inclusion, understanding, and support for individuals with developmental disabilities. It is a time to recognize strengths and abilities—while also addressing the unique challenges many individuals and families face.

One important, and often overlooked, part of this conversation is mental health.

Individuals with developmental disabilities experience mental health concerns at similar—or higher—rates than the general population, yet their needs are frequently misunderstood or underdiagnosed. Awareness creates an opportunity to promote more inclusive, responsive mental health care.

Recognizing Our Therapists | National Social Work Month

This month, we’re celebrating the clinicians whose training in social work equips them to provide compassionate, evidence-based therapy.

At CTSHealth, many of our therapists are Licensed Clinical Social Workers (LCSW) or Licensed Clinical Social Worker Associates (LCSWA). Their education and clinical training emphasize understanding the whole person—including mental health, relationships, environment, and life experiences.

That perspective allows them to provide thoughtful, personalized care to the individuals and families we serve every day.

Throughout the month, we’ll be highlighting members of our team and the meaningful impact they make in the lives of others.

Thank you to our incredible therapists for the compassion, expertise, and dedication you bring to your work each day.

Cooper's Weekly Mental Health Tip: Develop a Morning Routine

-Start with intention, not urgency
Avoid jumping straight into emails or social media—give your mind space to wake up.

-Keep it simple and realistic
Your routine doesn’t have to be long—5–15 minutes of consistency matters more than perfection.

-Anchor your morning with 1–2 habits
Examples: hydration, stretching, journaling, prayer/meditation, or a short walk.

-Regulate your nervous system early
Deep breathing, quiet time, or sunlight exposure can help reduce stress before the day begins.

-Create predictability in your day
A consistent start builds a sense of control and stability, which supports mental wellness.

-Avoid comparison
Your routine doesn’t have to look like anyone else’s—build what works for your life and season.

-Stack wins early
Completing small tasks first thing can boost confidence and momentum for the rest of the day.

After years of chasing success (and achieving it!), Beth found herself at a crossroads. Layoffs forced her to pause long enough to question everything she thought she wanted — and what success really meant to her.

In Part 2 of Beth’s story, she shares the bold decision that followed: selling nearly everything she owned, putting the rest in storage, and stepping into a completely different chapter of life.
This episode is about courage, reinvention, and what can happen when you stop living by the script you were given and start creating your own.

If you haven't listened to Part 1 yet, we recommend starting there for the full story. Beth's story is full of real-life challenges, honest reflections, the navigation of unexpected transitions, and a belief in herself to go after the life she wanted and deserved!

Substance use and mental health are deeply interconnected. Many individuals turn to alcohol or other substances as a way to cope with emotional distress, anxiety, trauma, or chronic stress. What may begin as an attempt to feel relief can gradually create additional challenges.

Substances can temporarily numb difficult emotions or provide a sense of escape, but over time, they often intensify mental health symptoms. Anxiety, depression, mood instability, and sleep disruption may worsen, creating a cycle that becomes increasingly difficult to break without support.

Each year, National Sleep Awareness Week (March 8–14) and World Sleep Day (March 13) bring attention to an often-overlooked truth: sleep is essential to both physical and mental health. These observances serve as an important reminder that quality rest is not a luxury—it is a core pillar of emotional well-being.

While awareness weeks highlight the issue, sleep challenges affect millions of people year-round. Chronic stress, demanding schedules, caregiving responsibilities, and constant digital stimulation have made restful sleep increasingly difficult to achieve.

In Part 1 of this Healthy Head Talk episode, Rewriting the Script: Beth's Story of Reinvention, Beth shares how a series of unexpected layoffs and constant career pivots forced her to stop and take a hard look at her life.

She had rebuilt after major transitions, stepped into demanding roles, and kept pushing forward — until the stress and uncertainty started raising bigger questions.

What happens when the career you’ve worked so hard to build stops feeling sustainable?

This is the beginning of a powerful story about burnout, identity, and the moments that force us to reevaluate everything.
