A 2025 study published in AJOG adds powerful, up-to-date data showing associations between doula care and improved maternal and newborn outcomes.

Key Maternal Outcomes:

More vaginal births after cesarean (VBAC): For every 100 patients who received doula care, there were 15 to 34 additional VBACs compared with those without doula care.

Higher postpartum follow-up attendance: 5 to 6 more per 100 received postpartum office visits.

Key Neonatal / Infant Outcomes

Increased exclusive breastfeeding rates: Babies whose families had doula support were more likely to breastfeed exclusively.

Fewer preterm births (and early preterm births): Doula-supported births showed a reduction in preterm birth rates.

In short, the study links doula care with improvements in birth outcomes — across birth mode (more VBACs), infant health (less prematurity), and early infant care (breastfeeding, postpartum follow-up).

If you are considering a doula it is always advantageous to do so as early as you can! It books your spot on the calendar and you get the most time to ask questions or use your doula as a resource while pregnant. Last minute hirings do work out from time to time too, so reach out if you are looking for support!

2025 was a wonderful year of supporting families!

📅It was my busiest year so far, with 8 babies due between September and November arriving 1 per week for a stretch that kept me on my toes.
🏥I got to attend births at a few new hospitals and a few home births with midwives that I hadn't worked with before.
📚In between all of that, I completed a training to offer a new course for clients... details coming soon!

Thank you to all the families that invited me into their birth experiences this year. I look forward to seeing where 2026 will bring me.

Kelli was amazing to work with. She is so knowledgeable and was such an amazing support system for us during labor. She was a great coach. She helped me get into different positions during labor and into a positive mindset. Birth was an an absolute dream. The midwives and Kelli were amazing and the best team I could have ever asked for.

This announcement is LONG overdue as this cutie is more than 1 year old already!

Rylee joined her parents Maddison & Mitchell in February of 2024. Maddison was a first time mom that described her birth as "an absolute dream," and I couldn't agree more.

Rylee's birth was also the first I've attended with a birth photographer! Amanda (Dreaming Tree Photography) got some great shots!
